My Xbox Series X seems to get stuck updating a game every so often

Thanks for sharing your question with Microsoft community forum, this might be caused by some corrupt files on the console or a sudden connection issue that happened with your internet connection as in it may not be stable all the time since you mentioned it happens randomly.

So please do the below checked for the internet connection:

1. Test Network Connection:
   
   • Xbox: Go to Settings > General > Network Settings > Test network connection.
     
   • PlayStation: Go to Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection.
     
   • This will help identify if the issue is with your console or your internet.
     
2. Switch Between Wi-Fi and Wired
   
   • If you're on Wi-Fi, try using a wired Ethernet connection for better stability.
     
   • If wired isn’t possible, move your console closer to the router or switch between 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.
     
   • Also test the console with a hotspot connection, if possible, to see if that would make a difference.
     

For the console, try the following power-cycle steps:

• (Make sure you know your Microsoft account passwords before doing this), sign out of you accounts on the Xbox by going to the "Settings", then "Account", then "Remove accounts", and remove all the accounts on the console.
  
• Turn off the console: Press and hold the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds until it shuts off.
  
• Unplug the power cable: Once the console is off, unplug the power cable from the back of the Xbox and wait for at least 30 seconds.
  
• Plug the power cable back in: After waiting, plug the power cable back into the console.
  
• Turn the console back on: Press the Xbox button on the console or the controller to turn it back on.
  
• once the console is on again, sign back in with your email and password.

Getting the same issue on my Series X. Already almost six hours of gametime in, and the error seems to pop every hour or so

And how do you suggest I right click on the game to get to properties on an Xbox Series X?

Either way, waste of time.

I uninstalled and reinstalled game, now it's stuck on checking for update.

Xbox Series X games / upgrades / updates has to be installed onto the Series X internal or expansion card SSD,

You can have Xbox One games on your external hard drive that will get an Series X upgrade but the games will need to be transferred to the Series X and then the Series X upgrade will need to be downloaded onto the Series X SSD,

As an example...

I have Marvel Avengers on my external hard drive that will get the Series X upgrade and I will transfer the game over to the Series X SSD ready to download and update the game to the Series X version when available.

Just got an update for series x and xbox wireless headset (0.0.9.22) i'm not an insider. And it seems that disconnecting problem was finally fixed! i've experienced sound cut outs and disconnections too often and the worst case was fh 4. I've been playing for an hour after update and haven't experienced any issues. Before the update i can't even play 10 minutes without issues. Also it seems they reduced bass in headset so i can use standart game preset.
