Yeah, those games are optimised for the Xbox Series X|S consoles, so will need to be installed on the internal storage.

1 other question the XBOX series X internal hard drive 1TB can Microsoft allow you to upgrade to 2TB internal storage or say 3TB or 4TB as many new games uses nearly 100 GB each so if you have 10 games the harddrive easily fills up I feel Microsoft should of made the Xbox series X internal harddrive expandable so you can increase the internal storage space of the device please don't confuse with card slots on the back of the console for Seagate expansion drive

It depends on what you use as external storage. If you get a regular hard drive or SSD, then any Series S/X optimized games will still need to be moved to the internal storage to play them (Older games can be stored and played from the external drive). If you want to store and play Series S/X optimized games on external storage, you would need on of the expansion cards that were created for the console.

I had the same problem where the disc wouldn’t read until I cleared up some of my internal storage. Certain games like High on Life and Dead Island 2 won’t work on external drives. If you have a series X or S, you will need at least 56GB free on your internal storage to install the game with enhanced textures. 33GB would be required without the upgrade. Not sure whether this will help you or if my disc just decided to work one day. But I didn’t get the usual prompt that the game required to be installed on internal storage like usual, it still might be worth a try.

I have checked the game and it seems like the game is Optimized for Xbox Series X|S consoles. You may need to move the game to your Internal Storage to play the game.
