No worries, the error usually means that your Xbox Series X does not support the WIFI security protocol your router is using.

Your Xbox supports WPA2 and WPA3. If your router is set to WEP or a mixed mode that isn’t compatible, your console won’t connect.

Please try these steps:

1) Access your router settings from your phone or PC.

2) Change the Wi-Fi security type to WPA2 or WPA3

OR WPA 3 which is meant for enterprise not consumer

I just reset my Xbox and I go to connect it to wireless internet and it comes up with your security protocol will not work what do I do?

The Xbox factory reset on the series X still did not work, it wouldn’t connect to the network. I connected my original Xbox one (2014) back up to my monitor and I was able to play online games just fine on there, same Microsoft account and internet that the series X was not connecting too. My Xbox series x keeps saying it has a hardware issue when trying to connect the internet, I’m pretty sure this proves it’s a physical problem with the hardware on my Xbox. I still have warranty on it and can return it and trade in for a new one. I’ll try doing this and seeing if the trade in one works.

My phone, TV, tablets, computer and land line all work fine. It's just the XBOX that won't accept the Security type, which it claims is not one of the acceptable ones for the XBOX - but my computer says the Security type on the modem/router is WPA2.

This is the first time since the router (gateway - that is router/modem combination in one box) change that I have tried to use the XBOX.

Thanks for your continued support. I'm tempted to buy an XBOX X to see if that will make a difference. I have this nagging feeling that the current XBOX I have simply won't connect to the internet due to some sort of firmware update that I can't get.
