If you can't change the settings, restore xbox to factory settings

Also please check that you didn't accidentally change the aspect ratio or zoom setting on your TV. It looks like your TV tried to zoom a 4:3 screen to remove the black bars left and right while displayed on a 16:9 screen.

If you really think that the Xbox is at fault, hold the Xbox power button on the console itself for 10 seconds to completely turn the console off (instead of putting it to standby).

Then hold the Eject button down, while starting the Xbox again with the power button.

That will reset the console to a recovery resolution of 480p which you can then set back to the appropriate resolution.

Please take a look at you tv settings first - there is a good possibility that these have changed. Next, have a look at the xbox settings menu. Under display you will find step by step instructions to help calibrate you tv and xbox. This type of issue
is usually caused by an unsuitable aspect ratio.

As suggested to you, first try to check your tv settings and loof if the aspect ratio setting is right.
