My Xbox says that there is a message that is unread and it will not go away. How do I get...

I have the message issue, on the dashboard it says theres a message, when I go to the friends panel it says there is no message, on smart glass it says there are no messages, none of my messages are howing as unread on the console, no idea how long I have
had it but its been a while, I am used to it now.

I encountered this bug today and I had an unread message that would not go away.

so I clicked where it said 1 unread message and it took me to a chat (I'm pretty sure I'd already read it) and the notification went away.

Games on demand getting disc unreadable? The only downloaded game I had that message pop was Yugioh. It doesn't even make sense. How is the disc unreadable if it's a file on my Xbox? Silly Microsoft.

When you go to check the messages, make sure you open up each individual thread - it could be an older message that the system is unread, so on the face of it when you open the messages tab they all look to be read but there's an unread one hiding in there.

If it's not that:

If you have an Xbox 360 boot it up (or start a backwards compatible game on Xbox One) and see if there are any pending friend requests or voice messages that are unread. That could be contributing to the number.

You can try and troubleshoot it by downloading your profile and the game to a usb and seeing if you still get the error, if you do there's likely something going on with the HDD:
