My Xbox refuses to work.

Last week, my Xbox was running just fine. Everything worked, the console was fine and games performed as they should. A couple of days ago, it starts running unimaginably slow. I'm not being picky wither, I mean unplayable. The quick menu will just freeze, my games and apps runs slowly and also freezes until I'm forced back to home, which also crashes and resets itself. As for games? They won't load. So naturally, I turn it off and on again. I get stuck on the sign in menu, which is running too slowly to work.

After this, I decided I'd just unplug it and plug it back in again. For probably half an hour, I'm stuck in a boot-up loop, which eventually brings me to the troubleshoot menu. It gives me Error code E102, which requires an offline update. I thought this was strange, considering that it was working just fine a day prior. Another fix was a factory reset, which I went through with. It took five attempts before it got past 50% on the reset, which eventually worked. Once that was finished, the console was working again. I logged in, installed a small game, played it to test the console and it was working just fine. I turn it off and go to bed. I wake up the next day, same problems. The console is ruined, and by this point the temptation to ram a screwdriver through it is at an all new high.

I go through the same stuff again with the troubleshoot menu of factory resets, which eventually works and brings me back to the Xbox, which isn't fixed this time. I do a reset, which gets stuck. Only this time, it's stopped bringing me to the troubleshoot menu and insists there's nothing wrong. Error code E102 is now nowhere to be seen and factory reset decides it wants to fix the console this time. I go to bed, wake up the next morning, and it's all still working. Lovely. It was all working, until it wasn't. One of my friends who seems to be an expert with computers insists there's something wrong with the HDD, but I'd like a second opinion from the pros of reddit, or those who've experienced the same rubbish Microsoft has put us through.

Hello Archiethehead, E101, E102 errors are usually connected to faulty clusters of Xbox's internal HD, so your friend seems to be really right.

I don't know what your console model and is and how long your Xbox has, but these errors are realistic for hd clusters that are faulty, so the console can't install the operating system on the console causing this error.

Most of the time, an offline update can suppress these clusters, however over time and use of the console it appears again and you may have to change the console's internal HARD drive if it is no longer under warranty.

Oh, and I run on an Xbox one S and it's almost 5 years old. Do these factors affect anything?

Hello again, for the knowledge only, the Xbox HD is a normal computer HD, the Xbox One S can support an inclusive 2TB HD.

About to why this happens, there may be several factors such as power surges, poor console shutdown etc, it's really hard to know.

Thanks, I'll give that a go and report back if it fixes it. Unfortunately, I'm not willing to sell my left kidney to buy a new internal HD for it. I love my console, but I also love my physical health.
