My XBOX One's Image is Black.

I am having same issue...directv genie box...picture is set to native and stretch but Xbox one decodes SD picture strangely, squeezing it small with black bars around borders of the small image. Unhooking the genie box and going straight to the tv does
not cause the issue, and the SD image is properly stretched to fit. Unhooking my directv from Xbox one until this is addressed.

Sorry to hear it. Can you try getting a different HDMI cable and see if that fixes the issue?

If it doesn't then you may need to return it. However, you don't need to just send the console in and wait at your doorstep for the return. Give phone support a call and set up an advanced exchange. What they do is take your credit card info and put a
hold on the cost of a console (they do not take the money) then send you a console. When you receive the replacement console you send yours back and when they receive it at their service center they will remove the hold from your card.

Thanks for the suggestion, it seemed to work initially. But after working fine on Christmas day, I left town for a few days and on using the console for the first time on returning it's got the exact same error. I even switched the new cable for the old
one and the messed up image looks identical whether I'm using the official Xbox One HDMI cable or the new one that I purchased.

Thankfully they just opened a Microsoft store in my area a month or so ago, I'll be taking it over there to see if they can help me without needing to mail it off. (this is my 1st Microsoft console and so far I'm pretty let down, I've had it just over a
year and had the kinect die at ~6 months, which they did replace for free. But now am having crippling display issues with the console itself at 1 year; I hope the warranty didn't expire at 1 year)

Similar situation - but instead of going completely black, the image is gone and there are black and grey lines both horizontal and vertical. Sound is working but no image.
