    My Xbox One X controller isn't working on Windows 7 (wired)


    When I try to plug in my Xbox One X controller, I get a 'device not recognised'/'could not install', etc. error. It just vibrates once, then nothing happens. No light on the controller at all.

    My 1st gen One controller does work perfectly fine though.

    I'm running the 'xb1usb.11059.0.140526x64' driver which works with the 1st gen controllers perfectly.

    I've even tried the 1st headphone jack variant and that didn't work either.

    Tried many cables, many ports, and 3 different controllers, but the only one that works at all is my original 1st gen one.

    Is there something I'm missing? Do the current controllers just not work on Win7?

    What driver/update is needed for them to work?

    the answer is it is a wireless controller they dont work with the usb charging cable ive tried it on windows 7 and 10 you need a proper wired controller apparently.
    That's true for 360 controllers, but not Xbox One. The Xbox One controllers work wired and via wireless on PC. My wiress controllers all work fine via the micro USB cable on my PC.

    Windows 7 doesn't come with drivers built in to the OS though, they may need need to be downloaded manually if Windows update isn't picking up the controller.

    Hey, you mentioned this is windows 7 right?

    Make sure your controller is update as per: https://support.xbox.com/en-IE/xbox-one/accessories/update-controller-for-stereo-headset-adapter
    Ooh, that seems to have done it! The controller was fully up to date before, but just re-checking and updating on the xbox seems to have done it!

    What's stupid is that despite searching around for ages, neither of those articles came up.

    Every controller since my first (1 with audio jack, one XBO S, one XBO X) hasn't worked, so it's not the controllers themselves.

    Yep, and they work there (but the other PCs were windows 10).

    This only seems to be happening on my Windows 7 PC with anything post-headphone jack.
