My xbox one won't let me change my ip address or dns what's causing this I rest router and ...

i ran the network test again and it told me my router my not be assigning an ip address that i should try to assign a static ip address... i dont really know what that means. i know the cox guy told me my modem changes the ip address all the time could that
be the issue. cause it connects then disconnects is it because my modem is changing the ip address and my xbox is assigned to a different one??

Only way to get around it for now that I know of - don't direct connect to your cable modem but instead place a router capable of working with IPV4 and IPV6 and then change the DNS settings for the WAN ports there.

I have comcast myself and yes their IPV6 DNS servers are not ready for prime time. Test performed using theirs mostly fail, while using googles Public iPV6 DNS servers always pass.

So, what I did - though the router will receive it's Public IP's (IPV4 and IPV6) and the DNS Servers to use. I instead changed the DNS settings from Auto to Manual - Manually adding Googles DNS Servers for both IPV4 and IPV6 but leaving the Actual Addressing
set to auto for both IPV4 and IPV6.

Thus: Anything DHCPing from my router (which acts as a DNS Forwarder) will receive and IP Address for my network along with the Routers IP Address as the DNS Server. Noted on my XBOX ONE that my Primary DNS Server is in an IPV6 Format and it's set to my
Routers Local IP Address. So what happens now AND DNS Requests will now pass DNS thru the router to what it was told to use as DNS servers which are now Googles Public DNS servers for both IPV4 and IPV6.

Problem solved.

have you tried changing the DNS settings on your xbox? This helped me but I was connecting to my router wireless. I changed the DNS settings to manual then went on my computer opened the command prompt typed in "ipconfig/all" then looked for DNS servers
and entered those IP addresses into my xbox for the primary and secondary DNS servers. I hope this helpful.

And are you using address reservation in your router settings to reserve an IP address for the xbox?

Sudden IP address changes can cause strict NATs

I use address reservation on my router to reserve an IP for my xbox one and NAT is almost always open even when using instant on mode. If I don't use address reservation I find the NAT regularly goes strict

I have Verizon FIOS and was experience the same issue. I followed the guides with no luck. I place my XBOX One on the DMZ port of my router and still no luck. I got it working by changing my DNS entry from automatic to a Static address.

I went on my XBOX One settings --> network settings changed DNS not the IP to 8.8.8.8 second server 192.168.1.1 (what the original automatic address was set to.) It's been working like a charm since that time.
