My Xbox one will not access games that are on my external hard drive please help

My Xbox one will not access games that are on my external hard drive please help. The only way i can get access to the games on the external drive is to press the xbox button for 10 secs then trun back on then the game will start I have to do this every
time i turn my xbox on or switch games. I never had to do this before this started a few days ago. I have had the external usb 3.0 hard drive for about 6 months. it is a U32 Shadow 1TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive for Xbox One. I hope the hard drive isnt
going bad.

I have a WC my passport ultra on my one ever since yesterdays issues with xbox I cant access anything on my external hard drive all my games are on there can someone help me pls

Hello, everyone. I want to ask the following subject: it results that I bought an Xbox One X which has 1TB Hard Drive and I want to store all games in the 4TB external hard drive I previously own but I want to keep my Profile exclusively on my Xbox One.
My question is: if I transfer the games to the 4TB external Hard Drive will my Profile still be just on my Xbox One and not get transfered with the games as well to the 4TB external hard drive?. I want my Profile to be just on the Xbox One. I do not wanna
get it transfered to the 4TB external hard drive...

I'm having a similar problem. I'll be in the middle of playing a game and it simply shuts down and the external drive is no longer visible. I have to unplug and replug in the hard drive for it to be recognized. 15 to 20 minutes later, it does it again.

I'm using a 3TB Fantom Drives 7200 RPM USB 3.0 drive.

 

To clarify, I'm using a G-Force MegaDisk Black USB 3.0

 

Try switching the USB the external HDD is connected to. Power off the system, switch the usb and power it back on.

I had a similar problem, where all my games on the external drive "vanished"; someone suggested the above and it worked for me.

 

I'm wondering if it's something to do with the fact you are both using generic drives? I am using a Western Digital Ultra 2TB and iv'e never had an issue. Now that i think on it most people i know who have had this issue constantly it always seems to be
a generic drive. Could very well just be coincidence but do any of you have a more common branded drive to try instead? Even if it's a smaller one just for experimentation purposes.

 

I've atempted switching USB ports, this hasn't fixed the issue.

If it's generic drivers that would sound like an issue with Microsoft's software. If this is the case, there needs to be a fix and this needs to be brought to their attention. Especially seeing as Fantom Drives isn't a mom and pop shop; it's one of the larger
brands.

 

Wether it's causing it or not i'm unsure just a random guess,however iv'e never considered Fantom Drives as a major brand name.

I'll be quite honest with you before i got into food and started running a bakery i used to do Tech repair and diagnostics which i burnt out on fairly quickly in life. And never once did i see nor till today had i ever heard of Fantom drives. That said
even if it is a generic causing the issue i agree Microsoft never stated certain drives to be compatible only that they be USB 3.0 and over a certain size so they should work either way. Still though do you have any more known brands of externals to test
the theory at least?

 

If possible, you can use a different USB cable which connects the drive to the console. I had a similar issue, but when changing the cable it worked without issues.

The rear ports also seem to offer better compatibility with drives.

 

I can try using a different cable... just gotta get one first.

I originally had it plugged in the back of the console, started having issues then switched to the side port. Honestly, I've heard both said; that the back ports are garbage and the side is better and vice versa.

As far as Fantom Drives being a major brand, I should have clarified that a bit more. They're more or less an up and coming name. I had never heard of them until about six months ago. I've worked on PC's since I was ten years old, parents owned a pc business
and dad now works for the IT department at Sutter Health. I asked him about Fantom Drives and he said he got one about a year ago and it's never given him problems. From the reviews I've read, they're solid. But as you stated, this is an issue that Microsoft
needs to rectify. I'm actually fairly certain Fantom Drives use a major brand HDD, they just produce the enclosure, but that's just an educated guess... not gonna crack it open and verify, don't feel like voiding a warranty.

In all honesty, I'm hoping this thread simply brings it to MS attention so they can fix this glitch infested console.

Did the 360 have this many issues? Curious.

 

Just as an FYI- this isn't an MS issue, it's the drive itself. Using other externals on my system is fine, using this one it idles right out...
