My Xbox One started shutting off on it's own. There is a virus in the console!

In most cases when the Xbox shuts off on its own, it's either overheating, or there's an issue with the power supply.

1. your console cannot be hacked

2. you console cannot get a virus

3. could be a hardware failure, software failure or over heated (xbox one consoles are aging now)

Wrong. My console if infected with a virus. Someone is taking control of the power. It freezes for a moment and then the console shuts down.

We can definitely get this sorted out but first, let's perform troubleshooting steps. Do you have an Xbox One Original? If yes, kindly follow the steps below:

1. Unplug the power cables from the console, electrical outlet in the wall, and power supply.

2. Wait 10 seconds.

3. Firmly plug the power cable back into the electrical outlet and the power supply.

4. Press the Xbox button on the front of the Xbox One console. If the console powers up successfully, you’re good to go.

If you have an Xbox One S or Xbox One X kindly follow the steps below:

1. Unplug the power cord from the console.

2. Wait 10 seconds.

3. Plug the cord back into the console, and then press the Xbox button on the front of the console.

Try connecting your console to another wall outlet (ideally in a different room), and disconnect any peripherals so it’s only the HDMI and power cable. Then verify everything is securely connected with your console well ventilated on a flat surface. Be sure to wait a few minutes before powering on, and try not to use a surge protector in your setup if possible. Especially don’t overload anything anywhere.

Test other electrical devices/appliances on the same wall outlet to isolate the problem and if the same issue occurs with all these as well, then it’s most likely a complication with your internal wiring or circuit box/service panel and you should contact a qualified electrician to assist further.

If you’re experiencing this unexpected shutdown issue on the original Xbox One model, you may want to purchase a new power supply as there’s probably a fault with the current external one. If you decide to try this, be sure to get an official genuine one that’s compatible for your country/region. Certain third party products often significantly cause more issues (or even don’t work at all) and almost always completely fail soon after.

This may also be software related as mentioned earlier, so be sure to keep everything up to date to potentially resolve this and generally prevent most system errors. There’s sometimes new features added or improved in these updates as well. If you notice your console powering off when in a specific game or app (whether randomly at various times or only at a certain point in particular), you should contact the respective developer(s) to properly address this as the relevant game/app is their responsibility.

It would be best to just purchase a new console in this situation though, considering all the costs involved. Perhaps upgrade to a Series X|S - both of which I recommend.
