My Xbox One S Won't Power Off Properly

I have an Xbox One S, which isn't a year old yet. I guess that's obvious though, given that the thing only came out last August.

While playing a digital game the other day, I felt I'd had enough and wanted to quit. I pressed the dashboard/guide button on my controller, and expected the guide to appear. But it didn't. Instead, the screen merely darkened (as if the guide was going to
appear) and then basically froze. I couldn't do anything, except for hold the button and bring up the "Turn off controller or turn off system" prompt. Though, even then, I couldn't select anything because the joystick and A button wouldn't register.

I did the only thing I could think of, and pressed the power button. But it took 10 minutes or more to actually turn off. The power light kept dimming then getting brighter ad nauseam, and my external hard drive remained on. I didn't recall having anything
updating or downloading, nor was the system in Instant On mode. I almost never use it.

Eventually, after 10-15 minutes, everything turned off. And research that I did suggested that it may have been downloading an update, which I found odd but tried to accept.

It worked okay after that, up until today.

Last night, I gamed for a bit, then set something to download overnight. I put it on Instant On, then turned off the console.

Today, I turned it on, the system booted up fine. Then I went to load the game I'd downloaded and got an error both times I attempted: "The game has taken too long to load."

I also noticed that an update I'd started was taking quite some time to actually get going, so I thought maybe my external was acting up. As such, I decided the best thing to do would be to fully turn off the system, wait a couple of minutes, then turn it
    back on.

So, I went to settings -- power settings -- turn off console -- full shutdown. Hit select and waited.

But, for some reason, the console didn't turn off properly. The hard drive remained on (and once again seemed to be downloading something), but the power light remained solid. It never went dim, nor did the system turn itself off. Instead, it just stayed
like that for 30 minutes or so.

I called support, and they didn't know what to say. But they recommended trying to push the power button. That turned it off, but still, I'm very wary of what's been happening. Something isn't right.

I mean, I was downloading something when I turned it off today, but:

    a) It wasn't starting properly, from what I could tell

    b) I selected full shutdown

    c) The update was 27gb, and my Internet is horrible meaning that it would take a lot longer than 15-30 minutes to download.

    d) The hard drive turned itself off from inactivity within 15 minutes or so

I asked Microsoft support about doing an advanced exchange, which I had to do for the original model. I asked about getting a new one, to which they replied that it'd merely be a refurb. At that point, I decided I'd tell them I'd call back.

I have extremely bad Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, to the point where I don't eat or drink, or touch anything while gaming, outside of my controller and console and any games. I dust regularly, never move anything, and treat stuff like it's worth a million
dollars. Yet I still have bad luck.

I wish that I could keep this Xbox, but obviously don't want it if there's something wrong with it. I also don't want a used, dirty, refurb. Who knows how someone else treated it, and who knows how much dust is inside of it, or if the problem was fully fixed.
    It's too worrying.

I trust that their engineers know what they're doing, but I don't want some random person's used Xbox for the above reasons. I didn't pay $500 plus tax for that.

Has anyone else had such an issue?

    :)

  3. Xbox One S Issues

Hi, yes, i've tried that, it won't switch on using those either. Once manually switched on, both Xbox commands and Cortana work fine.

The issues its now experiencing is, dropping 5Ghtz network frequently, fan is getting louder, won't power off 100% of the time (sitting with a flashing light and powering kinect on and off and won't power TV off....6 hours is its record having been left
overnight). I'm beginning to think this Xbox One S is a dud.

My Xbox One S Won't Power Off Properly

This started happening after I downloaded a relatively small console update earlier this week. Was that perhaps a bugged preview members update?
