My Seagate 2tb external hard drive used to work fine. I didn't do anything to it but use it. One day it just stopped working, when I plug the HDD into my Xbox one s with the 3.0 USB it powers it but when I go to setting>system>storage there is no external
hard drive there. I hook up the HDD to my comp and it detects it on my comp and I trouble shoot it there and it says there is no problems the it is working properly but my Xbox still doesn't detect it I have followed the trouble shooting steps and I'm still
left confused and discouraged to try anymore this is my last attempt at trying to get a answer because YouTube is providing no help.

it just says formatting and nothing is happening, is there like a certain time I wait before its done formatting

Try formatting it on the PC using NTFS and see if that helps.

Try performing a hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely.
Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes.
Plug the power cord back in and restart the console.

I have the first generation Xbox one, with a Seagate game drive for Xbox(2TB), the cord i hit was the cord that connects the hard drive to the disk, and i bought a new cord to see if that was the problem but it wasn't, I have tried using different USB ports, and I have plugged it into a computer and it is detecting my hard drive on my computer.

I'm using a Seagate STEA2000400 (2TB) on an Xbox One S and have had no issues, and a 2TB Toshiba Canvio Basics hard drive on an Xbox One X, again without any issues. I'd definitely recommend both of those. I have one of the Sea of Thieves branded hard
drives too, that does the job as well.
