My Xbox One S isn't showing a 1440p display option even though my monitor supports it

    Hi,

I recently got a gaming monitor that supports 1440p at 144Hz and connected my xbox one S to it. However when I went into the display settings the only two resolution options I see are 720p and 1080p. I have tried steps such as hard resetting my xbox but
still no change. The 120Hz setting works however it only does it at 1080p and doesn't show me the option of changing to 1440p. Can someone please give me a solution, thanks.

    :)

My Xbox One S isn't showing a 1440p display option even though my monitor supports it

    Hi,

Well, I have good news because after hours of scouring through various forums I found the solution, so here it is for those who want it:

If you have a local branded monitor or a monitor that the xbox doesn't automatically detect as 1440p or any other resolution that you know it is then do the following:

Settings >> General >> TV and Display Options >> Video Fidelity and Overscan

Then select the override to HDMI (originally auto) if you know that your monitor supports a resolution that's not listed. Then go back to TV and Display options (excuse the 480p quality for a second), and select your preferred resolution (in my case 1440p)
    and it should work perfectly.

Thank you for your help as well, Obsessive Power! Also could you quote this so I can mark it as the answer?

    Hi,

My monitor’s a PRISM+ X315 PRO (it’s a Singaporean brand). Sorry for not mentioning this but in the user manual it states that it supports 1440p through both DP and HDMI. It’s just that through DP it allows 165Hz but through HDMI only allow.s 144Hz. I’m
mainly confused because the xbox allows me to change the refresh rate to 120Hz but not the resolution to 1440p

    Hi,

What's the make and model of the monitor?

There is quite a bit of confusion regarding monitors and Xbox One consoles. Quite a few monitors don't support all features and resolutions over HDMI. It's likely that 1440P and 120Hz is a feature on your monitor that is only available via Display Port.
DP is not supported by Xbox One.

    Hi,

I tried to look for an online manual, most manufacturers have them as downloadable PDF's, but this one doesn't seem to be online - at least not when I searched for it.

If you have a manual it should have a section that mentions the 'Timings' of the display. We're interested only in the Vertical Refresh. If the manual is comprehensive enough it should provide this information, and should say what vertical refresh rates
are supported and what various resolutions they are supported. including if such a resolution or refresh is supported via HDMI.

Even if 1440P (or 2560x1440) is listed here at 120Hz, the Xbox One can still be pretty fussy when it comes to monitors and refresh rates. PC's - with the correct graphics hardware - won't have issues supporting the native resolution and refresh rate of this
monitor as they are more open standards, but the Xbox is not so simple.

Monitor options for series x on Assetto corsa competizione

For the monitors that fully support 1440P @120Hz, HDMI 2.0 is enough. You don't need HDMI 2.1. The Samsung G5 1440P is one of those monitors. However, the rated 165Hz is for PCs running the monitor through Display port. That being said, HDMI 2.0 on this display has enough bandwidth for 1440P at 120Hz.

The important thing to note is that Xbox One X or Series X isn't like a PC and games won't run better automatically just because you've got a 1440P display. Many Xbox Series X games will still render internally at 4K and will be downscaled to the lower display resolution. You'll only see improvements in performance if said performance options are available in the game. As far as I'm aware, ACC does not have a 1440P performance mode. It doesn't need it though as it a pretty solid (for the most part) 60fps game - well, it is on Xbox Series X anyway.

These gaming monitors have a technology called FreeSync which is also supported by the console. FreeSync eliminates screen tearing and judder when performance drops.
