My Xbox One S is running extremely slow. Someone help!

Hello,

My Xbox One S has been running extremely slow lately, I decided to strip the console apart and clean out all of the dust hoping to resolve this issue but unfortunately no success.

I have noticed an app called "Microsoft Xbox Purchase Host" has been updating but its been really struggling to update (My internet isnt great but its 30mbps average so it does the trick)

I cancelled this update and the xbox instantly became faster, started running smooth again, games started up fine all apps opened fine. Day later turned it back on and this update is back and the xbox is practically at a stand still again.

I thought this could just possibly be the app needs to finish its update so I let it continue, even though it was a 107mb update it took way too long, when it was eventually done the xbox continued to run slow...

Tried to open "Settings" and even that failed to open "Sorry Settings took too long to open"

Any ideas what can cause this? Xbox is clean, good condition, done hard reset to clear the cache incase of any corrupted data ect... but no success.

I have seen a few different posts about certain consoles running slow on the dashboard and failing to open pretty much any app/game and ive tried all the troubleshooting guides but no luck so far.

Hi KCannon98, I hope you're doing great out there despite the issue that you're experiencing. I am an Independent advisor and I am here to help you in regards to your concern.

In this case, we just need to reset your console keeping your games and apps through the Xbox Troubleshooter page. Don't worry because as long as you're connected to Xbox Live your saved progress, games, will not be deleted. It will remove all of your accounts but you can add all of them later on.

Make sure to follow the steps accordingly to access it:

1. Unplug the network cable if you're using a wired network connection.

2. Power off your console, and then unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely powered off.

3. Wait 30 seconds, and then plug the power cord back in.

4. Press and hold the Pair button (located on the left side of the console) and the Eject button (located on the front of the console), and then press the Xbox button on the console.

5. Continue holding the Pair and Eject buttons for 10-15 seconds.

6. Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart. You can release the Pair and Eject buttons after the second power-up tone.

When the console powers up, you will see the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter. Please click on "Reset this Xbox" then "Reset and keep my games and apps".

I have factory reset keeping mu games....this didnt fix it. I factory reset losing my game this didnt fix it. Seriously what’s wrong my S isnt even a year old.

Same here man, mine started at about 1ish? I cant remember what time but I start up the xbox, goes to xbox green screen for about 5-10 min then goes to a grey or black screen for about the same time then Gradually loads in all of my apps, I then try clicking
on a game and it freezes or Starts to load in but stops and a notification pops up that says “sorry this game took too long to load”

I just wanna enjoy me some quarantine. I thought I was the only one with slow dashboards and freezing. HELP US PLEASE

A couple of things to check.

Inspect the ventilation holes for dust accmulation and clean them if required.

If you use Instant on power mode it doesn't hurt to fully shut down the console every now and then and remove the power cord for a few minutes. This will reset the power supply.

If you're using a power board, try connecting the console to a separate wall socket by itself.

Reset power supply solution has steps that may assist.
