    My Xbox one S is ridiculously slow


    I got an Xbox one S this Christmas, but have experienced constant problems since getting it. Apps and games take several tries to start, and sometimes require me to restart the system. Also, download speeds are terrible. The majority of the time, my download
    sits there in the queue making zero progress. When it does make progress, the speeds are much slower than what I get on other devices on my network. I have checked my internet connection in settings, and it says I am successfully connected, but I still get
    slow downloads. Is this because my Xbox is defective, or is this just some problem everyone experiences?

    I have had this problem for a while now. It started on my 2 year old Xbox Slim. Whenever I turned on the console, it would take five minutes to sign in if I was lucky. Most of the time it couldn't even connect to Xbox Live. If it could, It would freeze for
    another couple minutes every time I tried to select something like storage device, friends, or accept or even look at an invitation. I decided to get a new console.

    A few days and a hundred bucks later my brand new Slim arrived... It does the same thing. The only difference is this one can consistently connect to Live, but it is amazingly slow.

    I'm not the most technical person ever, but could this be a problem with the hard drive? My console has 4Gb internal and 250Gb external with over 30Gb free space. I wonder though if it is on the verge of failing. Should I get a 320Gb and just transfer the
    data to that one?

    So I assume you moved the hard drive between the consoles otherwise it is very unlikely to be the hard drive as it is a different hard drive.

    If it is the same hard drive. Try removing the hard drive (temporary) to see if the speed improves

    (support.xbox.com/.../add-remove-hard-drive)/

    If the speed improves it is safe to assume it is the hard drive

    Disconnecting does not work, you have to be online in order to install the games. This feature is ridiculous! My connection is slow so in order to play any xbox one games I have to wait at least 24-30 hours (because that's how slow my connection is) in order
    to play each game.

    my original xbox one 500 GB was starting to show age and became slow, so i upgraded to the one S.

    Thanks for reaching out to the Forums for advice on how to deal with this issue. I can totally understand how this could be pretty discouraging. The best course of action if you cannot get to the settings would be to follow the steps outlined in our support
    page for updateissues here (steps
    2 and 5    ).

    When you get the chance, give that a shot and let us know if that helped.
