My Xbox One S doesn't support resolution on my 1080p computer monitor

In am using a HDMI cable for connecting my monitor to the Xbox and and yes the refresh rate is 60hz on my ASUS VG236H still when i change the resolution from my xbox display settings from 480p to 720p or 1080p the screen goes black for 15 seconds and returns
me to the low resolution of 480p.

are you using the same port/connection as what was used on the PC to connect the monitor to the console?

Also double check what refresh rate is setup on the monitor to be used, if it's set to 100Hz try changing it to 60Hz to check if that makes any difference.

Maybe your monitor doesn't fully support 1080p, try 1080i or look in the manual for your monitor and find the highest resolution it supports, in the display settings on your console you should have numerous resolutions you can set the console to output,
pick the one that is closest but not higher to the highest resolution your monitor supports.

A resolution of 1080P is 1920x1080, while 1440P is 2560x1440. Since your display doesn't support 1440P, the highest resolution would be 1080P.

To get 1440P would require a PC gaming monitor that supports that resolution.

Xbox One X is designed to support TV resolutions 720p 1080p and 2160p.

No monitor resolutions are supported at this time and there is no evidence that will change anytime in the future.
