My Xbox One S Does Not Output Native 4k

Discus and support My Xbox One S Does Not Output Native 4k in XBoX on Consoles to solve the problem; I can play non-UHD blu rays without issue, and upscale them to 3840x2160p, but 4k blu rays are 'restricted' to 1080/24p output no matter what settings...     My Xbox One S Does Not Output Native 4k


    I can play non-UHD blu rays without issue, and upscale them to 3840x2160p, but 4k blu rays are 'restricted' to 1080/24p output no matter what settings I use, and look a bit dim as a result.

    Are there any solutions to this or should I just return the xbox and buy a real standalone player instead? I realize sometimes you get what you pay for, but it seemed like a good deal at the time.

    BluSwirl, I'm not sure what you are asking for but if it is if the Xbox One S will Output Display at 1080p for a 1080p HDTV, then yes it will.

    Keep in mind though, the Xbox One S will Output all Xbox One (and BC Games) at 4k Upscale as well. It is not just for Media but Games as well. This is Upscale though adn not Native. imo Upscale from 900p to 4k is going to look like butt, again better to wait
    for the Scorpio to come out for Native 4k (or at least closer).

    Forgot to mention the PS4 and xbox one does output natively 4k I believe if I remember the press conferences well enough. Not for games but for media I thought hey said it supports 4k output

    Can confirm that the Xbox One S does support HDR both in game and for media. The thing I think you're confusing is 4K (2160p) output. The One S does support 4K output for both games and movies, however only the Xbox One X supports 4K
    rendering which is a completely different can of worms.

    Upscaling basically stretches the picture to match the resolution of your display (e.g. 1080p game/movie will be stretched to fit your 4K display resolution). The main difference between the S and X is the hardware, which is mainly utilized for games. The
    S will render games up to 1080p and upscale to 4K. The X is able to render and output at native 4K (only if the game is "Xbox One X Enhanced").

    Both the Xbox One S and Xbox One X play 4K movies the same. They can both output movies in
    native 4K, as well as optionally support HDR (HDR10 profile). You just have to be sure that you are streaming in 4K or use a UHD Blu-Ray, and your TV set supports it.

    Go for the Xbox One S if you want a 4K movie player with the option to game. If its movies you only care about, and you want to spend the
    least amount of money, then go for the LG player you mentioned.

    The Xbox one S does not output 4k game content. Only the One X is capable of doing that.

    Important questions few have asked about XBOX ONE!

    Re: X1 and PS4 both being "4k compatible," that does not mean they are 4k Blu-ray compatible, it just means that they can output 4k. So, in other words, there is still the possibility the X1 might only be able to upscale 1080p Blu-ray to 4K, and might not
    be able to actually decode and output native 4K Blu-ray.

    X1 can output in 4K in other scenarios, though.
