    My XBOX ONE reads DVD'S but not Games


    My xbox has worked flawlessly till about a month ago now everytime I put a game in it says please insert an xbox one game which is exactly what I'm doing but when I put a dvd in it works perfect!! Any ideas on what's going on with my console ?? Is this something
    I can fix myself??!

    Issue with Xbox not reading DVD's

    Its not meant to read regular dvd's only blu ray,cds or xbox one games sorry

    I wanna play CoD: MW2 but my One X doesn't read any of my old 360 games.

    Xbox One Games, DVD's, BluRays are working, but no 360 game.

    Hi,

    It's not the discs it's your console. If your console can not read DVD movies then it won't read Xbox 360 games either. DVD movie discs use the same type of discs that 360 games use (DVD-9).

    The Xbox One has two lasers to read discs. One for Blu-rays - which Xbox One discs games are made of - and one for reading DVD's and Xbox 360 games.

    Is there a way to install the Sonic Generations game disc on the Xbox One when it's backwards compatible with the the Xbox360 ?

    My Xbox One reads DVDs and all my other games just fine it's only acting up with Sonic.

    Hi,

    The optical drive in the Xbox One is a Blu-ray drive. Xbox One discs are on Blu-ray disc, same as HD Blu-ray movies. Xbox 360 games came on DVD disc.

    Oversimplifying my explanation a little, the Xbox One has separate lasers for reading DVD discs than it does for reading Xbox One blu-ray discs.

    The laser that is used to read DVD's has failed. This isn't a software issue, it's a hardware one. Unfortunately you can't fix this yourself, you'll need your console repaired. Sorry.

    Hi,

    Can you confirm if your console can read DVD discs?

    Xbox 360 games are on DVD and Xbox One games are on Blu-Ray. The Xbox One's Blu-ray drive has a separate laser to read DVD's, if it has malfunctioned, Xbox 360 games can't be read and the digital download for BC games won't start.

    To test this out, try playing a DVD movie disc. In all likelihood these films won't play and that will confirm drive malfunction. If this is the case you'll need your console repaired/replaced.
