My Xbox One makes a cricket like sound. Is this a serious problem?

It's been doing it periodically ever since I got the Day 1 edition at launch. It doesn't happen all time time and I never thought much of it, but now I am wondering if this is an early sign of a more serious issue. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I get the cricket sound periodically on my X1. It's been doing it ever since I can remember. It doesn't affect the system at all but it is somewhat annoying. Is this a serious problem? Does anyone have a solution?

 

G'day Badge! Where do you hear the noise coming from? Can you centralize it down to a specific part of the console, like the disc drive or a fan, or maybe the power supply? When do you notice it happening the most, i.e. what are you doing when you hear it?

It's loud enough that it sounds like it could be coming from anywhere inside the console. It's like there is a cricket trapped inside.

It happens randomly. It can happen when I am watching a video or playing a game or just browsing the home screen. Sometimes it's louder than other times. Not sure why. While playing Assassins Creed it got quite loud. It doesn't affect the system or
how it runs, but it doesn't sound good.

I unplugged my power brick from my power strip and plugged it directly into the wall but that did not help.

I've seen a few other people that had the same issue on these forums and they ended up having to replace the console. I would rather not have to do that.

 

I can relate to this. Mine is like a clicking noise on the right side by the fan. It only happens once in awhile. It's not affecting performance but can be a minor annoyance.

 

Mine makes a noise like there are crickets on speed inside the console. It's not very loud, but I can hear it in a quiet room or when the TV is on low volume. It also depends on where I am in the room. I usually sit about 4 to 8 feet away from it. I went
as far as moving my console higher so it isn't in line with my ears. I can still hear it slightly and it's really annoying. It's my second WORKING console. I sent my day one edition console back in March and got a faulty replacement back. I sent the day one
console back and it had the same noise. That's the reason I sent it in and they decided not to try and repair it as promised. They sent me a broken console out and I ended up getting an advanced exchange for the console I have now. It has the same noise so
I am guessing they are near enough all the same. The Xbox team aren't very helpful. They said the noise is normal one minute and not normal the next. I don't know who or what to believe so I'm just going to wait and see if this gets any worse. I hope this

To me it sounds like a band on a squeaky blu ray drive. If the console works its good, play it till it quits. Though eventually it may quit due to the fact that drive may be giving out.

Big questions though, is your house dusty? Also does your house have a lot of dry air and low humidity? If so it could be dust causing the issue, try some canned air at first, make sure it doesn't spray the moist air so spray it twice before using it. Dust
the fan, dust the front of the Disk Tray (even if people complain that it will cause problems, it wont) and see if that helps. If it does then problem solved, if not it's either failing fan or failing disk drive and will need repairs.

 

I have the same problem now after 6 quite months with my seconde x1. I send my day1 in after just 1 day because of the same noise.

I also get not a brand new console because the disc tray sticker was already off and it hat a couple of scratches on top. I was *** but at least it worked... Until now.

I am still getting the same noise. I haven't tried the canned air. It does seem like the sound comes from the vented side of the x1 so I am assuming that it is a fan issue.

 

The most cause of this sound is the hdd and if your console works you could end it back and get a even worse one with even bigger probs, some people have exchanged a few and each had same noise. Usually though the noise is heard at idle, but if heard when
disc in then yes could be another issue.

 

I have it too, and I believe it's a fan issue. I've replaced enough noise fans on PC's to recognize the sound.
