    my xbox one keeps turning itself on randomly


    Hi,

    My xbox one is a few years old, I haven't used it a ton, but i do play it a few times a month. Over the last few weeks I have noticed that it turns itself on randomly when the TV is off and nothing is around it or touches it. I don't have instant on selected
    or automatic update either. Last night I had to get up and shut it off 3 times. I've tried unplugging it from the wall and then plugging it back in after a few minutes, but it still does the same thing. This is really starting to get irritating because its
    in my bedroom and I don't want it running 24/7. I have also notices that when I shut the console down the power brick still stays white, even when its off. It doesn't go to orange like it used it. PLEASE HELP!

    Xbox One Turning On

    For some reason my new Xbox One keeps on randomly turning itself on. I have the power saver mode turned on and power it off completely when i turn it off. No Kinect, so that isn't an issue. Is my console haunted???

    Hey Reaper1020! Is the console connected directly to a wall outlet or is it going through a powerstrip or extension cord of some kind? Additionally, when the console does turn on, does it ever bring up an update or prompt? Post back and let us know!

    Hi,

    No it is not connected to a power strip or an extension cord, it is powered through an outlet extender. The kind that you plug in to turn it from 2 outlets to 6 but just a basic one not one with surge protection or anything. Could that be the problem?
    The strange thing is though is that it has been hooked up that way for almost 3 months now and it just started doing this, and also my xbox 360 is hooked up the same way and it isn't doing this. I'm not sure if there is an update that prompts or not, I will
    plug it back in today and see what happens, I have had it unplugged for a few days now because i was tired of it turning on in the middle of the night and lighting up the whole room ha. Thanks for the help!

    yes I just posted the same thing.

    I have 2 Xbox ones. They are always in energy saving mode.

    Just finished testing both and they are both going into instant on mode now, for some unknown reason.

    We have a fetch box and the remote for fetch turns the Xbox ones on when they are in standby mode. This is because... they, both the Xbox one and fetch remote share the same infra red ch, which is why we need energy saving mode.....and why we discovered
    this new behaviour in what is meant to be a fully shutdown Xbox.

    For us now, energy saving mode behaviour = instant on mode setting

    Which results in what appears to be Xbox ones randomly turning on when actually it's when someone uses the fetch remote.

    Hi there, friendly neighborhood ambassador here. A few things you can try... Unplug the power cord from the Xbox and the outlet. Wait for the power supply unit (aka brick) light to go completely out, then plug the pet cord directly into the wall. The PSU
    it brick as we affectionately call it has a built in surge protector. This means if you plug it into another surge protector such as a power strip it is causing proformance issues. If that does not work set your console to instant on, reboot, then set back
    to energy saving and reboot again. Let me know if this works.
