I have a strange problem that I never got around to addressing but I'm tired of it at this point. My Xbox One inexplicably can not maintain a good internet connection and lags in every multiplayer game I play. Literally, I have not played a match that was
somewhat lag-free since I bought the console last summer. Before that I had always used a 360 and it always performed fine with no lag issues, all on the same network/internet/etc. The problem is, I can't figure out what the issue possibly could be. I have
a high speed internet service that works perfectly fast as it has forever, and I've only experienced an issue with the Xbox One on it. I've tried wiring the Xbox One into my router and modem, I've tried connecting through wi-fi, and the results are always
    the same, nothing changes anything.

When I check my connection details, the download and upload speeds change DRAMATICALLY every time I refresh them. When I first turn the console on, they're very high up, but within a minute I'll refresh them and they'll be abysmally low numbers. Then I'll
refresh them and they'll be back up again, and then I'll refresh it again and suddenly the numbers are so low I can't imagine how they're even possible.

Did anyone experience an issue like this with an Xbox One? Is mine just defective? Or should I try something else?

    :)

    High Latency on xbox one

@taidara, correct this is for xbox one. While im playing my game starts to lag and I do the detailed network test on xbox one and my latency will be over 1000. Ill wait a minutes and test again and it is back to normal. I tested my ping on the site you
gave and its fine but when im playing it has major spikes. Started like a month ago, never had this problem before.

  3. Lag issue

Has anyone found a fix to this problem? I'm having the exact same thing happen to me. In BF4 and Titanfall I get lag, even though for the first month I had no issues and now it's terrible. I'm about to trade my xbox in for another. Maybe that will fix it!?!?!?

I don't know what you have tried but first thing I would do is to a reset on the network equipment (unplug them for 30 seconds) then I would do a hard reset on the console like this. Hold the power button on the console for 10 seconds or until the power
shuts down completely. Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes. Plug the power cord back in and restart the console. Once it is back up and operational test the results. Let us know. Good Luck!!

details would be nice, the X1 connection details are going to be unreliable since chances are that the test server is no where near you, what kind of router are you using? are you connecting to the wireless on 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz? what are your actual speeds/latency?
what type of internet do you have? cable/DSL/Fiber/wireless/satillite?

  6. Genesis1953: tried that several times, nothing.

Zero Divided: sorry haha. Using a Netgear N300 I think, but doubt it's the issue as I've had the issue when it's wired in as well, it's 2.4ghz, and my internet is cable and it's a 50mbps download/25mbps upload package.

The xbox one reports download speeds of around 9mbps (sometimes 12ish) and upload was around 3mbps, sometimes bouncing a tad bit higher. Latency was something like 79ms.

Assign it a static I.P. and open ports; that is if you haven't already. Same internet/package that you used for the 360? Anything else change, such as more connected devices? Perhaps your I.S.P. is more congested now? Neighbors "borrowing" your wi-fi signal?
One of my friends noticed a lot of lag...finally figured out his roommate was constantly streaming Hulu and Netflix all hours of the day.

I have not noticed any difference from the 360 to the One, or from PS3 to PS4 for that matter.

    Peace, J.R.

Thanks for the reply. Tried all that, did nothing. Nothing ever changed either, and no more users are on it as it's secured.

This definitely sounds like a hardware issue. Have you checked to make sure the router is fully updated with the latest firmware? I also checked the stats on the router and it doesn't appear to be a robust device.

  10. Firmware is all updated, yes. And yeah, I know. I'm definitely willing to buy an upgraded router if need be, any suggestions? It'd have to be a router that can be consistently fast even if with multiple devices using it

All I can tell you is I use the Netgear Nighthawk r7000 and I have no lag issues. I have 2 phones, 2 desktops, 2 laptops, Xbox One, 2 WIFI enabled DVRs, a printer and a smart TV all connected all the time. Then I have other devices that connect at random
as needed. I do run my xbox wired but my internet circuit is 100+Mbps down and 20+Mbps up.

It appears to me that you have adequate bandwidth on that circuit it should perform well with no lag so the next obvious places is your network equipment (modem/Router). I would also suggest going with a modem and a router and stay away from the combo/gateway
devices that the ISPs try to push on you. You will find that works much better.

Hope this helps. Good Luck & Happy Gaming!!

The N300 is not a great model for Netgear for wireless, but if your connecting over wire then it is good enough. To game online actually doesn't require much bandwidth, a 5mbps connection is actually more than enough, and your latency is not bad, my guess
is either you're getting packet loss, or your DNS is not routing you through the best path to the closest server, try changing you Xbox DNS server to point to either Google or OpenDNS and see if that helps.
