My Xbox One got hit by lightning

Last night there was a huge lightning storm. I was sleeping, when lightning struck and I noticed a big electric flash in the room next to mine, where my Xbox One was. When I woke up this morning, the TV, the digital receiver and the Xbox One were not
working. I'm mostly concerned about the Xbox One because it's the most expensive.



When I try to turn it on, the Xbox Logo on the console would turn white and i hear the turning on sound but then turns off after a second.



Could it be just the adapter? ( because it's supposed to protect it right?) or is there ANYWAY it can be fixed?

someone's house got destroyed by lightning in one of my worlds on peaceful. and i've seen it hit many times in the same world, so maybe it's more likely to happen in certain seeds? it was worstseedever.

 

new xbox old account

recently we were hit by lightning. purchased a new xbox . the old one is fried. when i try to recover my old account the only one that pops up is my daughters accouynt. how do i access my old account. i cant even sign in online . when i do sign in my daughters
account pops up . but not mine?? i do need do the xbox live gold for the year again and do have it but i cant figure out how to find my gamer tag to renew xbox live. my subscription ran out 2 days after we got hiy by lightning.

 

Try unplugging it for 30 seconds to 1 minute then plug it back in and see if it works. Hopefully it's just a fluke.

 

To add to what MaximumExtreme said - unplug the power adapter from the wall and from the console. Also unplug all USB devices that may be plugged in (I've had to do this a few times when getting similar problems). Wait for a couple of minutes, then plug
the power brick back into the wall and console, then start it up. If it comes on, then proceed to plug any USB devices back in.

I've had to take these steps after a power outage and some dashboard updates to get it to come on after exhibiting symptoms like yours. Hopefully your console is fine and at worst needs a new power brick.

 

Hey, does anybody know if the Xbox warranty does cover being struck by lightning? I just know that a lot of warranties are void if affect by "an act of god." Serious question here

 

No it does not. It is up to the end user to protect the hardware from outside circumstances that may affect its operation. Warranty only covers defect caused by design or manufacturing, or fault of parts because of the previous.

 

Echoing what Max and Chief have both said, doing a hard power down. I believe, if that doesn't fix it, it may be that ONLY the power supply is bad. (I can't swear to it, but it is a definite possibility.) Since the Xbox starts to come on, but then shuts
off again, that would indicate to me that the system is not able to pull enough power during the startup routine, which usually requires more power at the start than during the normal operation of the system.

Also, since the Power Brick has a built in surge protector (which is why you're not supposed to plug it into ANOTHER surge protector, because it restricts the power flow at startup) my instinct would be that the Power Adapter functioned properly and protected
the main console from damage.

If the hard boot does not fix the issue, I would strongly encourage finding a friend or family member who also has the system and trying THEIR Power Adapter in place of yours. If the system starts properly, then you would know your power brick is bad. If,
however, the system fails to start again, then it would be narrowed down to the console itself.

 

Just happened to mine. It was NOT the power supply. I tried my friend's.
