I'm dealing with the same issues. I have to do a hard reset before it will recognize the controller, and then the controller stays on after switching the console off. It also says that it can't sign my profile in, and it's the only profile on the system.
I bought the day one edition of the one and I've been anything but pleased with the issues so far, and this is a constant aggravation.

I've run into the same problem. I've tried the quick fixes mentioned on this thread. I chatted with xbox support and they wanted to replace my controller. I'll try these quick fixes first. Has anyone else have the problem reoccur after they tried the
fixes mentioned on this thread?

I also had this problem, but found Spyroman12's suggestion worked a treat. So, thanks Spyroman12.

1) Turn off your console, unplug all the cords connect to your console

2) Place your finger on the power button for 30 seconds (yes, while everything is unplugged)

3) Plug everything in, and turn on the console

Once the console is plugged in and turned on, follow these next steps

1) On the controller, take out the batteries

2) Place your finger on the power button on the controller for 30 seconds

3) Put batteries back in.

Sorry to hear about the controller and profile issue. I went ahead and moved your post so that we can provide support specifically tailored to you. Now, let's see what we can do to get these issues sorted.

First, for the profile issue, please give the following steps a try:

• Check to see if there is a service alert that my be causing the issue on our Xbox Live Status page.
  
• If there are no alerts, press and hold the power button on your Xbox One console for 5 seconds.
  
• Once your console is powered off, unplug the power cord and also remove the batteries from your controller.
  
• Wait 5 minutes and then plug in your console and insert the batteries into the controller.
  
• Power on your console.
• From the Dashboard try to sign in to your Xbox One console.
  

For the controller issue, please give the following steps a shot:

If the issue continues after trying to power cycle and remove the batteries from the steps listed above, lets try a few more steps.

• Try a fresh set of batteries in the controller.
• Try using a different controller if possible, to see if the same issue occurs.
  
  

Go ahead and give the suggested steps a try and let us know if you are still experiencing profile and controller issues.

 

Power cycling didn't help at all. It shut down fine the first time, but after starting it back up, the controller would not shut off with the console or turn the console back on.

 

How did you turn off the console? Did you have a light on the controller when you turned off console. Did you have light on the controller when you tried turning on the console?

 

I used the controller to turn off the console and the controller stayed on after it went off. When I tried to use the controller to turn on the console with the controller the controller came on but not the console. Everything works fine after after a hard
reset. But only until I turn it off and restart it, then it happens all over again.

 

I know it seem to be intermittent, however, have you tried re-syncronizing your controller with your console? My kids have fractured the power jack on my controller and it un-syncs and I have similar issues to what you're describing after futzing with it
to get to charge. Try pulling the battery on your controller, manually turn on your console, once it's up, put the controller battery back in and soon as it comes up hold the sync button on it and then press the same on the console. worth a shot...

 

I've tried syncing it several times. It works fine once the console is on, it just won't turn it on or turn off with the console, unless I do a hard reset.

 

It might be a software glitch.

That's a good link to have, thanks Buzz! @Prime Kal El: That's weird. Do you know anyone else IRL that you can borrow their controller? Using a second controller would confirm if it's that controller's hardware or not, which at this point it's either
the controller or the console itself. This would put you down to one possibility.

 

I'm not exactly sure how it happened, but it seems to have corrected itself for the time being.

 

Luckily enough, my two yr old son is the cause. He turned on the console with the power button, so I turned it back off. He turned it on again, and I turned it back off. It's worked correctly ever since.
