My xbox One controller keeps connecting to the wrong wireless dongle.

I have 2 computers, each on a different desks, but the desks are right next to each other. I have 2 controllers for each of the PCs. Both PCs are using the official wireless dongles for the xbox controllers for Windows PC. I have used the Windows Bluetooth and settings to add each of the controllers to their respective PCs.

here is the problem. On my PC, when the other PC is turned on, my controllers on my PC decide to connect to the other PC instead. The the only work around I have found for this is to disconnect the wireless dongle on the other PC, and then my controllers connect to my PC just fine.

This has only happened ever since I upgraded to Windows 11 on each PC. This was never a problem with Windows 10.

Yes, my controllers firmware are fully updated.

    :)

My xbox One controller keeps connecting to the wrong wireless dongle.

    Hello Eisberg77,

    Greetings!

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

It appears that you are having issue with controllers when connected wirelessly using the Xbox Wireless adapter. Let us check and see what we can do to help resolve your concern in a timely manner.

It is possible that your controller that connects to other PC has a good line of sight compared to the PC where the controller supposed to be connected. Any heavy amount of interference that is blocking the communication between the controller and PC may affect the connectivity.

As noticed that the issue also started after Windows update. We will try to update or roll back the driver for your Xbox wireless adapter to see if this will help. Here are the steps:

    1. Go to Device Manager.
    2. Locate Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows in the Network adapters section.
    3. Select Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows to bring up the Properties window.
    4. Select the Driver tab.
    5. On the Driver tab, select update driver.

We look forward to your response. Kindly let us know, if there is any misunderstanding or clarifications of our description by sending us a reply.

    Sincerely,

How Do I Connect A Wireless Xbox One Controller To Windows 10?

    Hi,

That wireless gaming receiver only works with 360 controllers, not Xbox One controllers. The Xbox one controller uses a different wireless protocol.

If you have Bluetooth for your PC you can pair the controller and use wireless this way. If you don't, you can buy any BT 4.0 USB dongle and connect using that. The dongles cost no more that $8.

Or you can buy the official Xbox One wireless receiver for Xbox One controllers.
Ahh, that explains it, thank you very much. Unfortunately I don't have Bluetooth inbuilt in my PC, but I can definitely buy a dongle. Does it need to be specifically a BT 4.0 dongle?

Xbox One Wireless Bluetooth Controller Unresponsive in Windows 10 Games

I recently bought an Xbox One wireless controller specifically for PC use and I ran into a similar problem. I thought the controller would connect, but it doesn't unless I have this USB dongle attached to my computer. It's a little wireless receiver or
something and that is the only way I can get my controller to connect and respond appropriately. I did have to go into the Accessories app and update the controller, but even still I didn't realize that some controllers need this dongle and others don't, even
though both are marketed as wireless.
