    My Xbox is leaking oil


    I’ve got home from work today, and underneath and around my Xbox was all wet and stained my carpets, I tried turning my Xbox on, the light would come on but then it would just turn off.

    I unplugged the Xbox and picked it up too see what the liquid was and when I turned it on it’s side loads of liquid poured out of the vents. And the smell of it stinks like alchohol but it’s feels and looks oily. No one has been in all day so nothing could
    of been spilt on it. What is this?

    Hi CynicalAnarchy,

    From my experiences with PC building and Xbox One knowledge, I can conclude that this is not a problem. The liquid you are seeing is Fan Lubricant. Fans leaking oil Lubricant are not rare most computers at some point have fans leaking Lubricant. During the
    manufacturing of computer fans, the bearing (the center there the motor is) is applied with oil Lubricant. Some fan manufactures put too much Lubricant resulting in some leaking after time.

    Here is what happened: Oil Lubricant was released from the Xbox One's fan, since the Xbox One's fan blows out air instead of blow in, the oil from the bearing's will be blown out to the top of the Xbox One causing what you currently see on your Xbox One.

    Don't worry, this might sound all scary, but don't fear. Fan Lubricant is non conductive, it will not harm your Xbox One's motherboard or any internal components.

    If you have any questions, feel free to rely.

    Xbox One producing weird oily liquid?

    My xbox one is leaking also... it looks like fresh motor oil when wet and drys white like milk. seeped through the bottom. The usb port on left side has a corrosive green rust in it also. Wouldn't touch this stuff if i were you.

    The original Xbox one and one s do not contain any liquids, the X has a sealed heatsink which contains a very small amount of liquid which very much doubt has leaked.

    What support line are you contacting? I'm having a bit of trouble understanding your situation and question.

    If you're having trouble with phone support in requesting service on your console, I would recommend reviewing the
    Microsoft Device Support page. You can submit service requests and chat with support on that site, which might provide more direct support for service requests then where you
    might be calling.

    And I don't think the console has oil, that would be able to leak onto a disc, so I would check around your console for external sources of oil leaks that might be causing that issue.
