My Xbox Idea: Lower the External HDD Storage Threshold

My idea/suggestion is that Xbox lower the external hard drive storage threshold from 256GB to something like 240GB.



As some of you know, a lot of SSD's are of the 240GB/250GB variety, and the 256GB requirement prevents users from installing games on drives below this threshold.

I think there are many Xbox users that have their first 240-250 SSD just lying around, when they could be used to store games that would really benefit from faster loading times (Fallout 4!).



Sure, I have a 500GB, but that's in my PC now. Sure, I could buy a 256GB SSD, but (believe it or not) I don't want to shell out $100 just for a single-purpose SSD. Especially when I have a perfectly good 240GB Samsung collecting dust.



A simple lowering of the storage threshold would give a lot of users the ability to play games with blazingly fast SSD performance, immediately. Also, any drive over 200GB is more than enough space to store the few select games that demand extra HDD performance
(Fallout 4!!). At the very least, maybe we could get an overly technical explanation as to why the external drive must be 256+ gigs.

Can't find games listed on HD

My games and apps. If your games are on your external HDD then change the setting on the games page to show either external or both instead of just internal storage.

 

Yoostar 2 & External Harddrives

Okay a little confusing but here's how it works. When any External Device be it a HDD or Flash Drive is used as a Storage Device (Memory for the Xbox 360), the Xbox 360 will only recognize it as such (a Storage Device) via the
USB. In short, a really huge External HDD becomes a 16Gb (Max) Storage Device from USB.

Some Games and some Features of Xbox LIVE require an Official MS Xbox 360 HDD that is for that particular Xbox 360 Console (ie Slim with Slim HDD). Simply using an External HDD will not work for these cases. Any External Storage Device is meant to supplement,
not replace an Official HDD or the performance of one that some Games and Features require.

 

While I'm sure some may like the idea, just don't see using anything smaller than a 1Tb.

Oh yeah. I'm all for bigger hard drives. I just want the performance boost of an SSD. A 1 TB SSD would be nice, too.

 

so you would rather spend a load of money on an SSD to save approx 2 seconds in loading times, if that. this is becoming insane, if it was me i would bring back the good old spectrum loading creen and make people wait for there game, say anywhere between
10 minutes to 45 minutes loading times.

 

I have 4tb all up with 2 laptop externals on the xb1, it runs fast enough and can't really see any point in ssd yet. Still, it shouldn't be hard to lower the threshold.

 

An SSD is only going to improve load times so don't see the big deal, I have a hybrid SSD drive and really don't notice the difference at all......

Negative. I would rather use the SSD I already have and not spend any money. I would just like MS to lower the threshold for installing games. Also, quick google search shows I would save 46 seconds on GTA V start-up, alone. www.reddit.com/.../for_the_ones_interested_gta_v_startup_times_from

Yeah, not all games would see a huge difference from SSD. I'm only concerned with games that have many instances of load screens (think Skyrim walking in and out of buildings) and long load times (think starting up GTA V). If all I played was Peggle and
LIMBO, I wouldn't be worried about an SSD. [tageggleandLIMBOrock]
