My Xbox controller switch to player 2 and I can´t go back to player 1

I'm having the same problem with killer instinct on my xbox one console. When I have both players signed in. I go to the versus menu, select player vs player. Player one will come up on the left. Then on it says press menu to join for player 2. But the 2nd
controller will not tag in. I have turned off my console then switched controllers, same issue with the working controller. I know both controllers are good. I can fret o the home screen using both controllers.

For some reason killer instinct will not let the signed in 2nd player join the player vs player local battle.

You can do the following:

Mute another player on Xbox Live

To mute another player on Xbox Live:

1. Press the Guide button on your controller.

2. Press Y on your controller to go to the Xbox Dashboard.

3. Select Friends, and then go to the Players tab. Select the player’s Gamertag.

4. Select Mute.

Block communications from another player on Xbox Live

To block communications from another player on Xbox Live:

1. Press the Guide button on your controller.

2. Press Y on your controller to go to the Xbox Dashboard.

3. From the Dashboard, open a message from the player whose communications you want to block.

4. Select Block Communications.

The player will not be able to send you any message, unless you first send a message to that player.

Avoid another player on Xbox Live

To avoid a specific player on Xbox Live:

1. Press the Guide button on your controller.

2. Select Friends, and then go to the Players tab.

3. Select the player’s Gamertag.

4. Select Submit Player Review.

5. Select Avoid This Player.

6. Select why you want to avoid the player: Communication, Game Behavior, or Player Skill.

7. Select the specific reason why you want to avoid the player.

I have tried "tricking" the system before by using my wireless controllers. What I did was turned on both wireless controllers which came on as 1 and 2 . Then plugging in a wired controller for player 3. Then turning off the player 1 wireless controller
and plugging in the second wired controller which I thought would star up as player 1, but it went to player 3 as well.

I will try what you are suggesting and report back it that works.

Usually most fighting games that you want to play split-screen on the same Xbox require that each controller be signed into two different accounts. So player 1 with controller 1 needs to sign into an account, and player 2 with controller 2 will need to be
signed into their own account too. Then, when you are on the multiplayer screen in game, you should see both profiles detected as player 1 and player 2.

Another reason this is happening is that both controllers are assigned to the profile logged in as player 1. Xbox controller settings also allow a controller to automatically sign in and assign to a specific account once the controller turns on. Also make
sure that Co-pilot settings are turned off to prevent two controllers from being assigned to one profile.

Best way to assign controller's to the profile's is to go into your games and apps library and opening the Xbox Accessories app. Select the controller and scroll down to the 3 dots for more options. From here you can assign the controller to profile 1 (player
1) and profile 2 (player 2).
