My xbox controller is connected but none of the buttons work

I'm sorry to hear that your controller is not working properly. I understand that you have tried resyncing the controller and power cycling the console, but the issue persists. To help you troubleshoot this problem, I would like to ask you a few questions:



- What is the firmware version of your controller? You can check this by going to Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories on your console.

- Does the controller work when it is plugged in with a cable, or does it only work wirelessly?

- Do you have any other controllers or devices connected to your console?

- Have you tried using your controller on a different console or PC?

There are a few possible causes and solutions for this issue.



First, please make sure that your controller is updated to the latest firmware version. You can do this by connecting your controller to your console with a USB cable and going to Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories. Select the controller and then select Update now. If there is an update available, follow the on-screen instructions to complete it.



Second, please try to reset your controller by pressing and holding the Xbox button on the controller for 10 seconds until it turns off. Then, turn it back on by pressing the Xbox button again and try to sync it with your console.



Third, please check if there is any physical damage or dirt on your controller that might interfere with its functionality. You can use a soft cloth and a mild cleaner to gently wipe the surface of the controller. Do not use any abrasive materials or liquids that might damage the controller.

My old controller is subject to drift issues, which apparently often effect new Microsoft controllers based on what I've read. It connects and "works" with my Xbox though, even though it's a pain.

I tried connecting the new controller to the Xbox via USB cable, it rumbled and turned on, and it appeared to be connected to the Xbox, but none of the buttons worked or affected the movie that was playing, including the home button.

As far as I know, there are no troubleshooting steps I can do bc the controller doesn't work, it appears to connect but the buttons don't work.

My Day One controller also connects but none of the buttons function when wireless, only works through the microUSB cable...However, the second controller I bought works just fine in all aspects...

This happened to me just the other day. I turned on my xbox as I usually do but none of the buttons on my controller would work, and yes my controller was indeed connected to my xbox. Only the home button would work as it would bring up the turn off controller
or turn off xbox menu. The analog stick would not respond and neither would any of the other buttons. I even tried multiple controllers. A simple hard reset fixed the issue and I have had no interruptions since then.
