My xbox controller acts like the tab key is being held down

1. The first time I connected it to my pc about 1/2 a month ago.

2. It happens when I am in and out of the game. It is from epic games, it is called rocket league.

3. They are both wired.

4. Yes, I do use it wired though, since the bluetooth on my pc does not work.

5. No, unless you count the opera gx browser vpn.

Based on your description, the controller functions like a tab that is pressed down. Let us isolate this issue and we will be asking few things that could help us with this. Let's see if this issue is related to the cable or to an app or the system. To have a better understanding, we would like to further isolate your concern.

1. Can you still recall the first time this issue happened?
   
2. Is this happening while you are in game? Or outside the game / on different window?
   
   • Is the game installed from Xbox app or another store?
     
3. May we know if your keyboard and mouse is wireless or wired?
   
   • Disconnect the keyboard and use On-screen keyboard as it would help us identify if the tab is pressed down. Try to use the controller and see if the on-screen keyboard tab key shows being pressed.
     
4. Can your controller be wireless?
   
5. Is there a newly installed game related app or antivirus, antimalware, VPN, firewall, proxy and PC Optimizer in PC?

Hi Chris

Yes he has tried his controller on another console. He has actually borrowed one from another friend that works fine on the friends xbox but not on his xbox.

We cannot find out whether it is just on his account or not as navigating the menus is impossible as it's acting as if it is constantly acting as if RB is held down even with the controllers off.

I am very confident that it's not because of a broken controller.

Try performing the hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely. Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes. Plug the power cord back in and restart
the console.
