My Xbox 360 won't configure external hard drive.

I bought a Seagate Goflex 3tb external hard drive and created another partition in fat32 with 32kb cluster size so the 360 would configure that partition for use. I even formatted it ahead of time and set it to primary instead of logical. I did each
of these things one by one while checking to see if the 360 would configure it for use or not. After going to storage and finding the drive I went to customize and chose 32GB. It just says it had a problem completing the action and doesn't do anything else.
What can I do to make it work?

Configuring External Hard Drive

I want to hook up my external hard drive to my 360 so I can play movies from it, but the 360 says it has to *delete everything* from my 1 TB external in order to create a 16 GB partition. Is there any way to configure my external without the 360 wiping everything
that's on it?

The Xbox 360 does not officially support external hard drives. If your Xbox is not letting you configure the drive then most likely, the drive just will not work. Sorry but the drive might not meet the performance standards that are necessary.

No you can only transfer content to flash droves internal 360 hard drive or external hard drives configured to be used on a 360.

yes there is what you need to do is first transfer all date of the External Hard Drive to your laptop for now, and now plug it in to the xbox 360 slim and in memory settings look for USB storage device and click configure now, no matter how big the hard
drive is the xbox 360 will only use 16GB of the external hard drive max so then you can plug it back into the laptop and use the rest of the stogage for your computer.

You only really need an official Xbox 360 Slim hard drive if:

The game insists on using an internal 360 hard drive. There are a select few 360 games that need to install some data from the disc to run, these games need an internal drive.
You still want to play original Xbox games.

For almost all other Xbox 360 games you can install to a external hard drive via a USB cable. The Xbox 360 supports external drives up to 2TB. If you connect an standard external hard drive via USB you can just move the game or saves to the external drive.

Unless your Xbox 360 drive is official, you won't be able to play original Xbox games. Most drives are not official. Any official hard drive will be quite old now as Microsoft hasn't made these drives for nearly a decade.

I have an old Xbox 360 I use occasionally for games that are either not BC on the Xbox One/Series X or were never released on PC. I use a 1TB external hard drive. I also want to insure that my Xbox 360s old DVD drive will continue to work into the future, so I install my 360 disc games to the 1TB drive.

Thanks, but can the drive be formatted without the 360 deleting everything that's already on my external hard drive, or will I just have to rebackup everything after the 360 deletes it and formats it?
