my xbox 360 is having a hard time updating.

Update on XBOX 360. I have both Xbox One and an Xbox 360 as I like to play some of the older games. Recently I decided to play a game on the 360 and it called for an update - and the update turned my Xbox 360 into a BRICK. The update bombed out, tried
it again... then it said I had no hard drive or that I would have to format the hard drive. It won't sign me in to Xbox Live, and it won't let me download my profile for a refresh. I have tried everything suggested on Xbox.com - but nothing works. I have
a brick. Not happy as Xbox should take responsibility for screwing up the 360 with an update, and I'm not the only one it seems as there is a plethora of the same complaint. Thanks for nothing Xbox,.... yeh, you got it, I'm not happy.

The Xbox 360 should be able to support external hard drives for game storage.

Is your Xbox 360 fully updated? Have you also formatted the hard drive with the Xbox 360?

Hi there - that error message refers to a storage device issue. From our
System Update Troubleshooting guide:

xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-D000-0185

A storage device (memory unit or hard drive) was not found during the software update. Follow these steps:

1. Turn off your console.
2. Remove all console storage devices, including any USB flash drives, external hard drives, or the internal hard drive on the Xbox 360 S console. Learn how to remove the hard drive.
   
3. Add your primary storage device, for example, the hard drive.
4. Turn on the console
5. Try updating the console again.
   

What model of console do you have? Does it have an internal hard drive, or internal flash memory?

You know a lot these hard drive problems have come because of the latest update. There was nothing wrong of my hard drive until this latest update. Microsoft has always been known for hardware that needs to be replaced and I think anyone who has had a xbox
then xbox 360 has had that experience.

I shouldn't have to back up my data 3-4 times when Microsoft is releasing updates that are corrupt. Now my 320 hard drive needs to formatted and I will lose everything including the games that were preloaded when I purchased the Hard Drive.

I am not a happy camper and on top of that have left my inquiry un-answered. Typical!!!
