    it says unformatted i heard it cant be fixed i am not going to re format it i have my save files on it i expect my money back microsoft from you as you made it the xbox said it needed to update so i go to update it said it didnt have enough space which
    was bull as im sure it had 7.1gb left soi go to delete space it says unformatted

    Transferring files from one External hdd for Xbox 360 onto pc?

    So recently when i turned on my Xbox 360 Slim, it gets stuck (not frozen) on the screen that shows the Xbox 360 symbol with the start up music, BEFORE i get to the dash board. I took out my HDD and it worked, but i have no data since all my data is on
    my external HDD. I listened when i turned on the Xbox and i heard some feint clicking noises, and i assume that my HDD is broken or the reader is broken. Is there anyway to tell whats wrong, or is there anyway to transfer files from my HDD to my PC.
    *My HDD does not use a USB port, it slides into the side of my Xbox 360 Slim.

    Hey shipmaster, well as you know its a HDD error. It can be caused by one of two things that I'm aware of.

    1, Your HDD is broken.

    2, The port connecting the HDD to the console is broken.

    If you remove the HDD does the console run OK?

    Do you have a friend with a 360?, and if you do would they let you borrow their HDD to see if that's the issue.

    If their HDD works fine then you know its your HDD that's broken. But if their HDD doesn't work either you know the console will need a repair/service.

    I did this when I got this error, because I did not want to go out and buy a new HDD when that may not have been the problem.

    Its something to try anyway.

    My Falcon Chipset model is my 7th console and the Jasper Model is my 8th console. I've had an Xbox 360 for a LONG time, but was off-line. My first console was the Elite Zephyr Chipset model (This is where I got my 20 GB HDD that I am still using now).
    I have been through 2 broken DVD Drives and 4 Red Rings Of Death. The Xbox 360 is my favorite console of all time :)

    Will your xbox start without the HDD attached?

    If it does, then your HDD is broken.

    Did you follow all these steps:
    support.xbox.com/.../one-flashinglight

    If these steps won't work, contact support to get a repair done.
