  1. My xbox 360 harddrive mysteriously reads "unformatted"

First everytime I turn on my xbox 360 it takes around 40 seconds to start up to dashboard. Then after it starts up it tell me I need to download an update after I select yes it says I dobt have enough space. After that I go to system settings and select
storage after that it reads unformatted. So I restart my xbox and the same happens all over again. My xbox is a 360 s and the hard drive is the stock 250 Gb and I dont know what else to do.

    :)

  2. Xbox 360 hard drive reads "unformatted"

Had the same problem myself today. Figured that my data was lost and there was nothing I could do. Tried several different things and then suddenly the hard drive appeared as normal. I use a usb stick in my Xbox as well so I quickly transferred a few key
games that quite frankly I'd pretty much given up on ever playing again. But, I left Gta V on the hard drivethinking it had fixed itself some how. I'd double checked by turning it on and off. Kinda wish I hadn't now though, the problem has returned and I'm
left wondering what to do. Seems a bit strange how it suddenly started to work again then stopped.

XBOX 360 WON'T UPDATE DUE TO ERROR CODE 43C5-4451-1380-267F-C000-0185

Also, as Gideon asked... what do we do if that internal 4GB harddrive on our consoles says Unformatted? Mine became corrupt mysteriously 3 weeks back and I've been using USB as backup... it ran very smoothly runnin' on the USB with XLive/App use, etc. until
that Update was rolled out last weekend.

Taidara, what are we supposed to do... assuming you know more on the issue?

My xbox 360 harddrive mysteriously reads "unformatted"

Hi, the only option available is to try and format the hard drive.

    .

    Format a storage device

Important When you format a storage device, all of the information saved on that device is erased and cannot be recovered ( this isn't strictly true as you may have your game saves on cloud, your downloaded content can be downloaded again once you have your
profile on the xbox by going to settings/ account/ download history ). Make sure that you either do not want the information stored on that device or have backed up the information to another device before you continue.

    To format a storage device

1.Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and select System Settings.

    2.Select Storage or Memory.

3.Select the storage device that you want to format, and then press Y on your controller.

4.Select Format. You will see the following message:

This will delete all content on this device. Do you wish to continue?

5.Select Yes to format the storage device.

6.If you are asked to enter your console serial number, do so, and then select Done. This step helps to guard against accidental formatting.

The console serial number is located on the back of the console and behind the oval door on the front of the console.

    Unformatted Harddrive

    Hi there,

if formatting it doesn't solve the issue, you could try a different hard drive (official ms 360 hard drive) like mentioned to determine if the cause is the hard drive or the console

If no other hard drive is available or a different hard drive is working, I'm afraid the only other option is to get a replacement hard drive, this may be done via
http://myservice.xbox.com or check any local stores that sell Xbox.

Side note: The update you mentioned is most likely a result of the failing hard drive, when a hard drive fails the console will think it needs an update.

    Unformatted Harddrive

Hi there TatorTank, Have you managed to successfully format your hard drive now? I assume you have followed the steps in this support article:

    support-origin.xbox.com/.../storage

    Format a storage device

Important When you format a storage device, it erases all of the information saved on that device and can’t be recovered. Make sure that you don’t want the information stored on that device, or that you’ve backed up the information to another device before
    you continue.

    To format a storage device

Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and select
    System Settings.

    Select Storage or Memory.

Select the storage device that you want to format, and then press
    Y on your controller.

Select Format. You will see the following message:

This will delete all content on this device. Do you wish to continue?

Select Yes to format the storage device.

If prompted to enter your console serial number, do so, and then select Done. This step helps guard against accidental formatting.

The console serial number is located on the back of the console, and behind the oval door on the front of the console.

If your still having the same issue then i would advise you to try another hard drive in the console if possible as it could be that if you have had that particular hard drive for a while; it could have become corrupt in some way as most drives tend to do
after time. If you can check back with me and let me know how you are getting on.

    Good Luck
