    My Xbox 360 and Xbox One Gamertags are separate


    I just spent $10 on my Xbox 360 to change my gamertag because I wanted one that had 15 characters and the Xbox One character cap is now 12. When I got back on my Xbox One, my Gamertag was still the same but it looks like I have two now or something. At first
    I thought that it just made my new GT a name, but my name is also there. I feel like this is confusing so I’ll just show you.

    Doodle2513 is the GT I had before this. SniffySquid5278 is the GT I bought for $10 on the Xbox 360 today. I thought it made it my name but it cant be that because my name is above those.

    Also when I go to customize profile it shows this as my GT.

    I dont know whats going on. Maybe it has to do with me using my free GT change after the GT update, but the one I want is an old one? I have no clue. I only want SniffySquid5278, and that is the one I payed for.

    On xbox.com it says SniffySquid5278. On the Xbox app when I log out and log in it says welcome back SniffySquid5278, but while logged in it still says Doodle2513. Im guessing you’re right, I just need to wait a few days for it to fully switch.

    That is a bit odd but it looks like the new change needs to be refreshed to show your nominated Gamertag. Is your Xbox live online showing like it does in your screenshot? if so you may need to make sure that your GT is the primary one that you are using.
    Good idea to go into settings and restart the console so the changes take effect. You can read this to see if all steps have been done. https://support.xbox.com/help/account-profile/profile/change-xbox-live-gamertag

    Dont worry about it give it a couple days and the one you payed for recently will be the gamer tag that will show up. I recently did the same thing

    Do you need to purchase a 2nd xbox live account for a 2nd system?

    The 360 and Xbox One consoles are separate systems so the same gamertag can be used on both at the same time (this may not apply for backwards compatible games on the One).

    However, if your 2nd son would like to play on the Xbox One then he would need to have his own gamertag created which would require a separate membership if he wanted to continue using that on the 360.
