    My Windows 10 update doesn't have DX12


    Main Problem: My Windows 10 computer doesn't have DX12 installed, rather it has DX11. There is currently no way that I know of to get DX12.

    Background Information:

    I downloaded "Gigantic" Beta, which requires Windows 10 and DX12 to run. I did a dxdiag, which revealed that my computer currently has DX11.1 rather than DX12. This was strange considering DX12 is supposed to come with Windows 10. So I contacted Microsoft
    support (twice) and Xbox support at the referral of one of the Microsoft Answer Desk attendants.

    The solution I was initially presented by Microsoft support was to update my processing drivers. Currently no update for Windows 10 exists for my driver.

    I contacted a few of my friends who were able to run the game to see if they had the same problem. They had processing drivers that also had no Windows 10 update, yet they still had DX12. No option on my PC allows me to update and get DX12.

    Back to the main problem: How do I get DX12 on my Windows 10 computer?

    Windows 10 with DX12 officially launching in July

    Just an omission, Windows 10 update for the Xbox One is coming soon which includes DX12. There is another thread showing the new UI we get in the Windows 10 update.
    Im not right very often so I just want to point out that I called it on the July prediction woo

    20percent gpu boost with dx12 on xbox

    I'll believe this "performance increase" when i see it, at the very least DX12 should improve stability right? I'll have to do some fps tests etc on my PC when windows 10 drops.

    Are you sure that your graphics card supports DX12? The i5-2450M is 4 years old an has a Intel HD 3000. If your graphics card doesn't support DX12, Windows can't use it. If you want to use DX12, you need a graphics card supporting it.

    Hi,

    If you've updated your graphics card drivers and you're still seeing this message it means that your graphics hardware (and I'm assuming it's integrated), doesn't support DirectX 10 at the hardware level.

    The DirectX12 software layer is installed as part of Windows 10 and 11 and is backwards compatible (in a software sense) with all previous versions of the DirectX graphics API. However, having DX12 installed doesn't mean your PC supports it at the hardware level.

    The game you're having issues with is probably an older title that came out before DirectX12, hence why the error doesn't say anything about DX12.

    What this basically comes down to is that due to the age of your system you can't run this game as its not compatible.

    If you've got a desktop/tower PC and a compatible power supply you can add a dedicated graphics card. If on the other hand you've got a laptop then I'm afraid you're out of luck and you'll need a new device.
