My VIP stars

I'm having the same problem; all of a sudden my VIP rank went from 66% of the way to 5 stars as a 4-star, to 91% of the way to 4 stars as a 3-star.

For MyVip pre-orders, in-game consumables, and subscription purchases are not eligible. The reward staff will have to review your other purchases to see if there are any other issues.

The staff works Monday - Friday from 9am to 5pm PST and typically take 1-2 business days to reply. They do not work weekends.

Preorders do not count towards VIP.

What content on the Xbox Store is eligible for MyVIP?

Normally, most purchases for Xbox 360 and Xbox One from the Xbox Store qualify, including full Games on Demand titles
(excluding game pre-orders), arcade games, indie games, game add-ons, game Season Passes, movies, TV shows, TV seasons, themes and avatar items.
In-game consumables, Xbox Live Gold memberships, Groove Music Passes, Microsoft Movies & TV Season Passes, and the purchase or redemption of Microsoft Points or Xbox Gift Cards, still do not qualify.

In September 2015, we made some refinements to the program. One change that happened was an adjustment of MyVIP purchase thresholds. Following this adjustment, we then placed you into your MyVIP rank based on your purchases from September 2014-August 31st 2015,
and then performed our yearly reset, which set your total eligible spending to zero.

Furthermore, as Murphs says, pre-orders and game consumables are not eligible for MyVIP, so purchases of in-game currencies like miscellaneous gems, crystals, etc, are not eligible for MyVIP.
