My Tab button is glitching out

Firstly, could you let me know the specific system version? Please check it (Win + R key, and type "winver", press Enter), and only send the relevant information without PII in the next reply.

Based on your description, it seems that there is a problem with your keyboard key mapping, and you can try the following steps to troubleshoot the problem.

1. On-screen keyboard

Use the On-screen keyboard to confirm your keystroke responses. Win + Q to open the search box, type

'osk', press Enter and open on-screen keyboard, then check if the Tab key keeps being pressed and if the other keys respond properly.

2. External keyboard

You can connect an external keyboard to the current computer and see if the keyboard can work properly.

• If so, there amy be a problem with the keyboard hardware itself that comes with your computer,
  
• If it also does not work, there may be a problem with the key settings in the system, you can try the following steps.
  

3. Perform a clean boot

This is a mode of disabling third-party services or software, which could help rule out the interference of these elements.

Disclaimer: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem.

These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by-step so that it will help you get you back on track.

4. Create a new account

Meanwhile, you may create a new test account, and switch to the newly created account to see if the function is normal. Because this cannot be ruled out due to the wrong configuration.

1. Select Start > Settings > Accounts > Family & other users. (In some versions of Windows you'll see Other users.)
   
2. Next to Add other user > Add account > I don't have this person's sign-in information, and on the next page, select Add a user without a Microsoft account.
   
3. Enter a username, password, or password hint—or choose security questions—and then select Next.

Note: If the new account is normal, please do not delete the old account before backing up the data of the old account to avoid any data loss.

Did you mean that you were experiencing similar situations in both clean boot and new account? If so, it cannot be ruled out that there is a hardware problem with your keyboard, and you can contact your computer manufacturer for offline technical support to help you with hardware testing.

Then I suggest you go into Safe mode to see if it's the system itself problem. Because Safe Mode enables a minimum number of additional services or apps to rule out issues caused by personalized settings and third-party apps.

1. On the desktop click "Start" > "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Recovery", under "Advanced startup", select "Restart now".
   
2. After restarting, go to "Choose an option" screen , select "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced options" > "Startup Settings" > "Restart".
   
3. After restarting, you'll see a list of options. Select 4 or press F4 to start your PC in Safe Mode. Or if you'll need to use the internet, select 5 or press F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.

Hello again

From what I can see on the On-Screen Keyboard, when I press on any letters, digits, functions or numbers, every single one of them seem to be functioning as a Tab button aside from the actual Tab button, which literally does not do anything. Nothing seems to be consecutively pressed, so I really don't know what information I can get from Option 1.

I'm not sure if I have or haven't mentioned this, but literally every function button stops the glitch from happening for approximately five minutes before continuing again, specifically F1-F12 and Ctrl.

Edit (18 November): Option 3 and 4 have both been done, but even during the "setup", the glitch seems to be still present, as well as after it, too, so I've come up with the automatic assumption that something is literally inside the PC, but if you think otherwise and probably have a couple other options I could try, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Thank you so much for your reply.

I have attempted Option 1, but from what I can see, there is not a single button or function being done from the On-screen Keyboard, but specifically today, the problem is less apparent, so it is quite difficult to give you a definite response to this option right now, but I will definitely notify you if I notice anything from the On-Screen Keyboard.

Option 2 is not really an option, considering that I've always used an external keyboard, but thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Option 3 and 4 are options I'm well aware of, so I will definitely consider them.

Right now, the only information I can give you from what you've asked of me is the version being 22H2 and the OS being 19045.2311

Have you tried logging out of your profile and logging back in? That seems to work for these glitched achievements. Just hit the start button, tab over to "settings", select "log out" and "switch profile". Your achievement should pop when you log back into
the game.
