My Starfield game just disappeared from SSD windows 10

Hey everyone! I'd been playing starfield for a week. I have game pass ultimate and install the game using Xbox app on windows 10. Everything was fine until this morning I turned on the PC and I realized my starfield game has an update. The size of the update was the size of the entire game. Exactly the same! I cancel it because I thought it was an error and if I reboot the app it shows the game on my library, fine and without any necessary update!

But the program does not show the Starfield game in the library. And when I go to the game screen I have to install it again. Even when I went to the installation location on the SSD the game was deleted. Just my saved files are remaining on my documents! Why did this happen? Is there a solution to return it? And does this problem happen often? Because this is my first experience of Game Pass subscription. I'm so worried if it's gonna happen so much!!

I faced this issue today

It took me three days to install the game after it restarted twice so is hugeeeely frustrating

This issue aligns with Microsoft Store issues dating back to 2020 where games and apps disappeared but maintained their hard disk space, so can't fathom how issues such as this haven't had anything done about them

I couldn't tell you why the game update was the entire game again, seems like it was a glitch in the update process. It's not happened to me recently, but I've seen this issue before, both on Windows and Xbox consoles. I've got Starfield on Steam, so I have no experience of this game via the Xbox App.

Unfortunately, when games update on the Xbox app, they don't download the update and then install it, they download and install at the same time. This means if you cancel an update it will remove the entire game. This is because the game will now be incomplete and wouldn't run.

Unfortunately you'll need to download the game again. Hopefully this will have been a one of glitch.

My install got corrupt, when my SSD broke down.

I have new SSD, but cannot reload Starfield from Windows Store.

Only option I have is PLAY

This part of the problem is fixed!

Just needed to get the new Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

Now i have another problem, the game disappeared from my library...

Newer games are now asking for SSD's and this trend will continue from here on. However, like others have said you don't need them for all games still, most older games will work fine an old 'spinning rust' drive. I've got many of my old classic PC games on my HDD.

Modern games benefit massively from SSD's though. Even an external SATA SSD connected by USB 3 is far superior than any mechanical drive. On a game like Assassins Creed Origins, fast traveling from one side of the map to the other on a mechanical drive takes up to 40 seconds, on an SSD it's about 5 seconds!

I couldn't imagine how poorly a game like Starfield would run on a mechanical drive. Games like these stream in data constantly, not just loading when you transition different areas. A slow drive on something like Starfield would cause delayed texture loading, pop in, pausing and stuttering. That's why the system requirements state an SSD for that game.
