My son's Xbox account seems to be linked to my Microsoft account not his.

I have just created a child account for my son and added it to the Xbox family app. It has sent verification emails to his email address and connected to the app, however, when trying to add it to the Xbox it won't allow it and tells me that another user on this device uses this Microsoft account. Everything I can see about the account seems to be independent but somehow it seems to act like I've got a second account.

Please try the initial solutions provided by Xbox Support on this page:

If those solutions don't work, it might be caused by some corrupted data on the console. Try a soft reset (keeping games and files) using this guide:

Thanks for your help. The issue seems to have been with using the quick sign in methods; when scanning the QR code on my phone to enter the code given, my account responded in preference to my son's. When we input the password manually on the console it worked correctly and I've been able to set up my other son as well.

Update: I just logged into my Older son's epic account as him and his account is linked properly to his xbox account. my younger son's account is still giving the error message I stated earlier.

When I bought my minor son his first Xbox, I added the Xbox to my account and had my son sign in there to use it. He is now an adult and I want him to set up his own Microsoft account and move his Xbox to his own account. How do we do this??.

You can easily havr him create his own account and log into his xbox.

He will lose access to his saved games and anything linked to your account. They cannot be transferred to another Microsoft account, nor can his gamertag.

He would essentially be starting fresh on his account.

We are also having this issue. It seems like my son can't use his microsoft account funds to purchase anything for any of his games on Xbox. Rather frustrating.
