My son getting access to playing a game

Hello,

I am trying to get my son a game on his new xbox one s that he got for xmas and it says he is restricted from playing Sea of Thieves because he is not allowed to join multiplayer games. I did select Allow in the parental controls through the controller
and it's still not letting him play. I talked to Microsoft earlier today with a rep who wasn't helpful...they said I needed to have my son's account changed to an Adult to allow him to play...that doesn't seem right, he's 14 and so it makes sense to me to
label his account as a child and set parental controls to what I desire. The game is rated Teen and I think I allowed up to 14 for his account. Please help me figure this out.

Unfortunately his account is going to stay a child account until he reaches the age of 17, therefore in order for him to play you will need to switch it to an adult account. It's based on game ratings and he will be restricted from from play certain games
based on the ratings of the games. It's just a safety feature that is built in.
