My series S come with a 2.1 HDMI cable brought it 6 weeks ago but my tv only supports 50HZ and is full HD 1080. I was looking to fimd out if its worth getting a 4k tv or one that runs 144 on 1440P

    Xbox series x

And what if I buy a cable will it work
The Xbox Series X will come with a HDMI 2.1 cable,

But whether you use a HDMI 2.1 cable or not, the HDMI port on the TV needs to be HDMI 2.1 to achieve the 120hz refresh rates at 4K.

using a HDMI 2.1 cable on a TV port with HDMI 2.0 will still only limit the Xbox Series X to 60hz refresh rates.

    New Xbox S HDMI

Be sure to use the HDMI 2.1 cable that comes with the Xbox Series S.

Basically, the series S support up to 120 FPS; therefore, please make sure that the TV supports HDMI 2.1.

Can i still connect the hdmi port to my monitor?

Does it work with HDMI 1.4a cable?
An HDMI 1.4 is not a high speed cable.

You don't need to buy expensive HDMI 2.1 cables that are gold plated or what not, those are a con. Just buy a regular High Speed HMDI 2.1 cable. Your Series S would have come with a compatible HDMI cable anyway.

Will Xbox series x/s have more monitors that run 1440p @ 120hz than current gen consoles?

    Hi,

As you know, the Xbox One X can be really fussy when it comes to Monitors, TV's are generally fine but monitors are only just becoming a thing for console gamers, and buying one that supports all the features can be daunting.

One of the biggest differences with the Series X/S compared to the One X is its HDMI 2.1 support. Yeah, 2.1 doesn't seem that much of a big deal numbers wise, but in terms of display bandwidth it's a BIG improvement.

But you'll need a new HDMI 2.1 Monitor or TV

The current consoles support HDMI 2.0 which has a maximum bandwidth of 18 Gbps (Gigabits per second). So, HDMI 2.1 can't be much of an improvement can it? Well it is. HDMI 2.1 has about 2,5x the bandwidth, which works out at 48 Gbps.

So what does this mean for future monitor/TV support?

Well Microsoft have already included support for Monitors and expensive TV's that support 120Hz on the current system and with the new consoles supporting the latest HDMI standard that support is only going to get better.

I'm not sure if there are any HDMI 2.1 Monitors released yet (I could be wrong), but they are coming. HDMI 2.1 TV's are already out there, but they're not cheap.

For more about next gen gaming and HDMI 2.1 look at these links:

By the way I'm just a regular gamer (more PC than console). I don't work for Microsoft.
