My Review of Dying Light

Dying Light has been compared with Dead Island ( Another zombie game by techland ) many times Both have zombies, combat is the same, both in a city on a tropical island, weapons are very similar yet this is not Dead Island for one thing there is a new mechanic
called Parkour in the game its a freerunning system like a slow Assassin's Creed. The Freerunning has been done very well in some ways better than Assassin's Creed for instance you can grab any and all objects walls, vans, fences and it all works.

The combat is simple in fact its identical almost to Dead Islands system where you just aim and hack/slice limbs off and in first person i found i quite liked fpmelee ( first-person melee ) the weapon creation is the same you find blueprints to modifie axes,
machetes, picks, bats, splices etc weather it be electric/fire/blood/impact and they get better when you get better which brings me to the leveling up its very rpg-like with 3 trees with different abilities Survival/Agility/Power - survival where you can get
better with bartering, agility get better with free running, throwing weapons and Power which lets you get stroner with melee there are lots of squares to unlock that have abilities on them.

The Graphics are superb obviously better than Dead Island but not by much the zombie and character models look great, not lifelike but still with all the expressions and such.

The buildings look fantastic and the scenery is like a photograph.

There are loads of side missions but not very interesting such as go fetch or turn on power boxes at antennas but if you want to get stronger it may help you to do some. The story missions are quite lengthy and a very good story I wont say too much but basically
its about an agent (you) being dropped into the infected zone to aquire a file for your employers so you go undercover help the tower all the while gathering info. The night machines riduclously hard but quite fun, stealth and time plays its role here but
if you dont want that you can skip night time alltogether.

Conclussion

The premise, combat, story, freerunning and graphics are very good and the game is very long and it sounds like the best game ever well it does come with some unbalanced difficulty spikes in the gameplay, i found it quite hard to very hard.

Its a very good game and if you can forgive the slowdown in the 2nd half of the game and difficulty then by all means buy it. I should point out there isn't a fast travel of soughts but you can fast travel to the 2 areas only slums and old town.

I never was excited for Dying Light and the recent troubles with disc production and the weird case of review copies not being sent out yet makes me feel the game will underperform.

I would play Dying Light before Evolve. Evolve has no redeeming qualities at all in my opinion.

It will be nice to play Borderlands with friends.

I just started last night. Can you free roam when you finish the game to do more side missions? Is there a point in the game where you'll know it's the last mission so you can wait to do it?

Brand.... You can carry on playing after the main story. There is also a + playthrough where you can start at the beginning with all your weapons and skills.

 

^ And it was posted in the other Dying Light thread that they are going to add a 'Hard Mode' for free. I've not seen anymore news about this but I'd imagine it isn't too far off.

 

This is probably my fave XB1 game so far. Just love it

 

There is a warning that you are about to do the last mission. Its only single player... but really good. This the best next gen game so far, imho.

 

Dead Island ruined it for me, if I had never played it I would've of probably bought Dying Light but I have and it's stained these games for me. Yeah they've added some new features but every time I see it I think Dead Island and that leaves a sour taste
in my mouth. Glad everyone is enjoying it though!

 

I know Dead island had a hate/love relationship and never an in between but i loved Dead Island lol I been eyeing Dying Light and it does look like Dead Island on steroids but again i loved Dead island so might pick this up. I'm going solo so hopefully it's
not going to destroy me.
