My purchases are being blocked by parental controls

It sounds like he's being blocked from purchasing content by a parental control to me. I would suggest taking a look at this page (support.xbox.com/.../xbox-live-parental-control)
and then take a look at the parental controls placed on your son's account and see if that's blocking him from being able to purchase DLC and such.

Their are 2 things that determine whether your account is considered a child account or not.

1. The DOB on the account when it was originally setup.

2. If you are in a Family as a child account.

If the DOB on the account when it was originally setup is still under the age of majority (18 in most countries) then it is required for it to be in a family account as a child.

Sometimes once the age of majority is reached there can be a glitch in the system that still keeps it in a family as a child.

When this happens you should be able to sign into your account at account.microsoft.com/family and remove yourself from the family which will then put you into a family of your own as an adult.

IF your DOB is still under the age of majority and you remove yourself from the family you will NOT be able to do anything on the account till you add yourself back into a family as a child.

My question is how were you added under a family of people you do not know?

This would have been setup when your account was originally setup as a child account it would have asked for a parent to sign into their account and verify there identity and then they would be able to add you to their account as a child.

Ok this is for all of you parents that would like a run down on how to stop your kids from being able to purchase anything on the xbox live marketplace. On your childs xbox go to the privacy tab. At that point block being able to purchase anything without
entering a 4 digit code that you set. You can also use this code to block movies and games over certain levels. If you buy a PS3 good luck with that one. Because ps3 has no parental controls. It also has internet with no parental controls and if you know when
your kids get to the teenage age, they going to be looking at stuff they shouldn't this is why we got rid of our ps3. Get ur code and block access thats why I love xbox bc of parental controls!

It is most likely Parental Control blocking it. If your parents control that you will have to ask them to change the “Purchase content” setting if you control it then you can change it yourself. Good luck!

Your son really shouldn't be playing online without parental controls being setup and blocking communication with all players.
