My PS4 controller is showing up as an audio device!!!

"Method 1: Reset the PS4 controller.

1. Turn back the controller.

2. You should see a tiny reset button. It must be close to the L2 button.

3. Use a pen or a needle and push the button for 10 seconds.

4. Connect the controller and check.

If the issue persists, follow method 2.

Method 2: Disable the audio and check.

1. Click on Start icon.

2. Type Control Panel and press Enter.

3. Click on Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers.

4. Double click on the controller and go to Hardware tab.

5. Click on the Controller with a speaker icon.

6. Click on Properties and disable it.

7. Unplug and plug it back and check."

it works just fine on my xbox, it's as if my machine is not picking up the capability to use the controller as an audio device.

shouldn't it pick up as an audio device regardless?

Are you plugging in a PS4 controller?

PS4 Dual Shock has its own speaker, so logically Windows will pick this up and install it, perhaps over the controller settings. I don't own a PS4 controller currently so below is an attempt at a guide.

A possible fix:

Plug in your controller with USB

Go to control panel>Hardware and sound>Devices and printers double click on the P4 Wired Gamepad and a popup shows up. Go to hardware and a bunch of options show up. Click on the "controller" that has the icon of a speaker, go to properties and disable
device.

After that the controller hopefully should be recognised as a controller and no longer an audio device and you can turn it back on if you like having the controller sound. Although don't quote me as like I said, I don't actually own a PS4 controller to
test on Windows 10. You can definitely use one on Windows 10 though.

To play some of the games from the Windows Store or the PC gamepass, you may have better luck using the popular external program called DS4Windows. This program fools Windows
into thinking that the PS4 controller is an Xbox 360 controller.

Make sure that once you take and verify the updated driver that the audio device being used is the USB Audio device from the wireless controller. As soon as you plug in a headset Windows should choose that by default, but it's better to check in case it
doesn't.

You can also see the complete tree of devices available via the adapter by first choosing the adapter in device manager and then changing the view in device manager to View->Devices By Connection. The audio device will also show up there.

When I say usb headset I'm talking about no optical audio cord connected to the xbox and no 3.5mm cord connected to the controller for use of mic. I have a gen2 astro a50 for the xbox one says on the box for xbox one. On my ps4 slim which has no optical
out. I can hook my amp to the ps4 only using only the usb port and in setting under audio devices you can have game and mic audio go to headset with no mic or optical cords. And it sound just the same and you can adjust mic sensitivity for background noise.
A much better set up than xbox and there outdated stereo and optical cords.
