my power brick went i have a question concerning my external hard drive

my external hard drive has it's own power source. it always has a blue blinking light. after my xbox one power brick died, the flashing blue light stopped on my external hard drive. i am assuming that is because my xbox one is longer getting any power due
to the power brick no longer working. i am getting it replaced through MS in what i am being told is a two week process. i am kinda of worried about my external hard drive. when i unplug it and plug it back in, the blue light flashes once and that's it. i
just wanna be sure if that is because there is no power going to my xbox one any more. the power brick does not have the yellow stand by light anymore. it just won't send power to my xbox one. and i just want to be sure that my external hard drive is fine.
i am assuming without power going to the xbox one, the hard drive shut off or something. i wanna know if anybody knows if the blinking blue light will come back on when i get my new power brick in two weeks. anybody know if my external hard drive will get
power again once i connect the new power brick to my my xbox one?

What sizes external HDD you getting?

I have a few 3TB external drives. Just dont want another power brick in my livingroom. I also have two 2.5 1TB external drives. So I will just use those for the time being.

 

External Hard Drive Issues Addressed

I am posting this in response to numerous posts about external hard drive issues on the XBox One. As I have stated elsewhere here and on Twitter, I cannot recommend a specific BRAND of hard drive but I do have suggestions concerning type and usage of them.

I am using a 1TB desktop internal hard drive in an external enclosure on my XBox One console. There have been all kinds of issues with it concerning installing and managing game data. I have come to the conclusion that the XBox One OS is set up to expect a
portable non-powered external drive. Unless Microsoft decides to update the system to properly handle a powered drive, I suggest not using one. If you must use one, you should power the drive on and off manually and turn it on AFTER you turn on the system.
Also, you should uncheck the system setting that turns off the power to the drive on shutdown. Hope this information helps.

Hi there,

I assume the same as you do, the blinking light is only present when the external hard drive is in stand by mode and since there is no power from the xbox one console it will determine that there is no need to stay on stand by and will shut itself down.

I wouldn't worry about the external storage device, it's more then likely going to work again like normal when you get a replacement power supply.
