my portable hard drive is formated to xbox one and cant change it back

can someone please tell me how to change my portable back so i can use it again im on windows 8.1

Hard Drive Unformatted

I dropped my console,Xbox 360 E, and now its saying my hard drive is unformatted.I formated it but it did nothing. I also removed the hard drive and placed it back in but nothing.What do I do now?Do I have to get it fixed?

you should be able to format the portable hard drive via windows 8.1 so you can use it on the PC again. via the Disk management tool on the PC.

 

i pulled up disc management but im not to good at this stuff and im pretty lost can someone give me some steps to do this?

 

Does the external disc show as a hard drive in the disc management program? Of so then try right mouse button to see if it showed a format option. Be sure to do this on the external hdd

When in doubt ask someone that knows how to do it to watch with you. Showing the steps might not work since every situation can be different due to difference in setup for a PC

Xbox One uses a different file system than Windows, so when you format the drive for use on the Xbox One, it will no longer show up on a Windows machine, at least not in the usual way.

To make your hard drive be recognised by Windows, you need to use Windows Disk Management. If you're using Windows 7 or Windows Vista, you can access the Disk manager either via the search function in the Start Menu or from the control panel.
If you're using Windows 8.1 the quickest way you can get to it is by searching for
Administrative Tools or go straight to it by right clicking on the Windows Start Button and selecting Disk Management from there. Or, you can get to it via the control panel.

With your external hard drive connected up, Disk Manager should now detect your external hard drive. A Window will pop up asking you to initialise the device.
I'm pretty certain that this procedure will remove the Xbox formatting so proceed with caution.

 

so if anyone has the same problem just search disc management on home screen then open it right click the unallocated disc drive and click new simple volume which will start up a wizard follow the wizard then hit finish.
