My parents account is lost and it’s old privacy settings won’t allow me to play realms

Yes I am in a family group, I changed my account settings with the parent account in the family, the settings on my account are saved but it won’t allow me to play that specific mode.

does your friend have issues with joining any Realm or just this one?

If it's any realm then it could be caused by his Privacy and Online Safety settings on the Xbox Live Account (Microsoft Account) which can be set here
http://account.xbox.com/settings

If his account is controlled by a parental account then the parental account needs to adjust some settings, like allow multiplayer and Allow User created content.

Players under 13 years old have online multiplayer disabled by default with Minecraft and won’t be able to join Realms or servers unless a parent changes their account settings. The settings that need to be allowed are:
