My PAL 360 console accepted 2 NTSCJ games but not a 3rd game

I bought a 360S console about 4 years ago in the UK. It is a PAL region console and I bought several PAL games. I signed up to Live Gold and played with no problems. My live account is registerest to a UK address and paid for with a UK bank card. I moved
to China almost 2 years later and took my xbox with me and played my xbox normally in China. I decided to renew my subscription to Live Gold so i could play Halo matchmaking, unaware that it should NOT work in China. The account and region settings did not
change, so its all UK based. I did not even know that this may be an issue. I connected to xbox Live through my internet connection at my home in China and played halo matchmaking many times with no troubles. Then I bought Fifa14 and Halo 4 in China. They
are official games , but they both have a NTSCJ region code. I played them with no troubles. My console accepted them. I didnt even know that regions were an issue,,,or should be. My console accepted both PAL and NTSCJ. Last month my subscription to live gold
expired and I also changed my address in China. I have had no internet connection in my news house whatsoever because I couldnt afford it at the time. But still,,both sets of games from different regions still play normally on my console. 3 weeks ago, I bought
MetalGSV and tried to play it on my console. It would not accept it because of the region. It is also a NTSCJ game. This is when I first even became aware of regions. I now have the internet in my new home and have connect to Live Free (silver). I then tried
my new game and it still wont read because of the region. My console updated with downloads when I connected, but it also did this many times before whilst using Gold in China before. All the other games still work.........Now.......I have researched this
and contacted support ect and no one can give me a straight answer.,,,,,but here is my idea.......-- Has anyone heard of the migration policy??? Has being subscribed to Gold allowed my console to bypass the region code on foreign discs and accept it permanently??
I havent signed up again to gold yet, but does anyone think that this must be it. AND WHY am I able to play Matchmaking in CHINA where XBOX LIVE is not allowed or supposed to be functional???? and NO, I DO NOT have a VPN........PLEASE HELP!!! sorry for the

Can't buy Metro 2033. "Not available in my region".

Ok after much reading there are two things

First look at the description of metro does it say pal or ntsc j?

Remeber china supports two standards

Pal and ntscj there is 3rd one but Its isnt supported by xbox

You could Be getting the PAL version

Which is incompatible with ntscj

Most hongkong and china games support Pal or ntsc c as japan supports the older ntscj for the region

not all of hongkong or china supports it

 

Cannot Download Gears of War Free Game on Xbox 360 (NTSC-J) & Gold Member, Austria

Basically pal account region + pal actual region + ntscj console = region violation

Ntsc j account region + pal actual region + ntscj console = region fail

Only option for gears is pal pal pal

 

Even though it says NTSCJ on the games box some games are actually region free & will play on any region console.

It's possible you have some region free games or the games that look legit are actually pirated games.

The migration process wont have any effect on what region games your console would play so thats not the issue.

in addition to what Daft Badger mentions. The MetalGSV game is likely a game that is regionally locked, which means that it can not be played on consoles that isn't from that specific region. Since your console is from the UK and the MetalGSV game is from
China (and region locked) the console will not accept the game.

This is determined by hardware and changing your account region or regional settings on the console will not result in any change.

I'm afraid there is no other option to run that specific disc on your UK console.

it is a strange situation.

all 3 of my NTSCJ games are definitely official. They all have NTSCJ on the box and disc. and game in official boxes will the seal.

2 of them work but the last does not.

it is also strange that I could play matchmaking in China when the service is not officially available. any ideas???

 

i hope i will be able to play matchmaking again if i subscribe to gold again.

- The games may say NTSCJ but the games can still be region free or regionally locked. A region free game will work on any console from every region and a region locked game will only work for that specific region. The NTSCJ doesn't necessary mean that the
game is region locked.

- your account is probably still connected to the UK, so that's why you can connect to live
