My open and honest, totally unbiased review of the xbox one - 6 weeks in.

Well, where do I start? I'm a huge Xbox fan having owned the OG and the 360. I've spent more money than I care to imagine on digital content and games (oh god, I've spend tens of thousands) and was a early adopter of live on the OG console. I'll start
with the launch night. I just didn't feel the same buzz around the one as I did for the 360. Maybe it's me getting older and gaming is somewhat losing it's luster, or maybe gamers as a whole just aren't as hyped up for the new consoles. I'm not sure, but either
way I wasn't feeling the "buzz". Non the less, I was excited enough to stand outside at midnight for bear enough 3 hours for my shiny black box. I was both impressed and underwhelmed when I got it home. Impressed by the quality (consoles have grown up a lot
since my zx Sinclair) and underwhelmed by the leap, or lack of, forward in graphical fidelity and features. It seems people are so socially focused these days. Everything's about "connecting in new ways" and being social. Screw that, give me a high powered
online games console within online support. I don't want to connect, share and collaborate. I want to game. The very reason I purchased a console over a PC is ease of use. No install times, no drivers, no bull. Yet I find myself sitting through a 3 hour install
including map packs and getting fleeced for £95 for a game (I'm looking at you, battlefield) With this in mind, the Xbox is still head and shoulders above the PS4 and wii u. I just can't help but feel that all this social nonsense is getting In the way. I
don't want to control and connect with my ipad, thanks.. And I don't really need a kinect - as cool as it is. I just hope that in time this social connectivity aspect dies off along with sites like facebook and crawls back into its cave. You might think from
reading this that I hate my console? Quite the contrary, I love it, which is why it's so painful to see it it's current state. Brilliant, but flawed. Here's hoping things change. Flame suit - ENGAGED

So you have owned the console for six weeks and not earned a single achievement? I call troll on that. Even if you are not a troll, you are so underwhelmed by the launch of a console that has been out just over a month. It's a bit premature to say it's not
a big leap from 360.

 

Great review so good to actually see a review that does not end with I'm buying a ps4.



Only thing I would like to add is next time do not make your font smaller than default. This site has an issue making line breakers and tiny font just makes for bigger text walls. This equals not receiving views.

I said its a good console - in fact, I love it! It jut pains me to see it flawed.

Re; 360 - what I mean is, I was literally blown away by that console. The x1, I though "sure, things look a bit better"

I can only assume it's because last gen was all about power, and this one is all about being social and connected. Maybe I'm a bit of an old schooler, but I would take a power boost over online social interaction any day.

And you got me! Damn why didn't I think of making my profile more believable? I created a profile, wrote out a long post, just to slate the xbox? Hmm....

A more likely scenario is - I created this profile purely to access the forums.

It would take more than that to make me go to the darkside, namely that god awful pad for the PS4!

 

I for one love the whole live TV thing....I never can remember the channel numbers for my favorite stations so just being able to shout them out while im taking off my clothes from work without touching a controller is AWESOME!

 

Yeah it's cool - but I'd love to have the choice. That's the problem, it's choice.

 

Well if you were looking for a giant graphical leap you set yourself up for a disappointment (that goes for the PS4 as well) since the graphical leap from generation to generation is diminished. What you should have been looking for is a processing power
leap which is what we got. You said you love Battlefield 4 did you not notice that there was 64 players instead of 32 while still looking better than the 360 version? How about Dead Rising 3, yes the graphics look like a 360 game but you also have thousands
of zombies on the screen at any given time with a map bigger than DR1 &2 combined with no loading times. As developers get use to the new systems the graphics will improve (look at screen shots for Witcher 3) but we also be getting bigger game experiences
like “Destiny”.

 

The thing with choice is that if a particular feature is included, you can use it or choose not to use it. If a particular feature is NOT included, you don't have a choice in what to use because you're stuck with whatever is there.

 

I think some people's expectations are a little too high for the next gen consoles. The 360 took a while before it started to really shine. Every game that came out for the 360 when that console first launched didn't even touch all the capabilities that
the 360 could do at that time. The same could be said about these first games that came out for the One. I did read somewhere (take with a grain of salt) that MS didn't get dev kits to devs in a timely fashion for the first wave of games. Not to mention,
it's a NEW PLATFORM, it's going to take a bit for devs to start taking advantage of the system(s) capabilities. This is true of not just the X1, but also of the PS4, and any new system that comes out.

MazdaSpeedNinja - I totally agree with you! I think the One is a cracking console, but I would much rather have had a power hike than all the media bull that comes with it. I quite like the kinect *Xbox On,* think that's comical!

The current games are still early for the console. The console is new and exciting and people are not aware of the max ability just yet. As with the 360 when that was the King!

It all takes time, but I for one believe the One will be the King, Xbox is most definitely the way forward...
